Annoying ticking noise - gap in extractor
Annoying ticking noise - gap in extractor
Hi all,
Traced an annoying ticking noise (thought it was the lifters) to the extractor header pipe.
Can feel a leak (blast of exhaust gases) from the pipe.
Question is how much (ballpark) would a new extractor be to replace ?
Would take it to the local muffler guy,but dont want to get ripped off.
Thanks

is it simply a blown gasket on a flange? or a crack in the pipe?

I hope your exhaust stud bolts aren't moving. I've pulled about 4 outta mine so far (thats just the exhaust bolts...).
Since i've got the head pulled off atm, i'm looking at bigger studs, drilling a hole into the head through the bolt and hammering a rod in there to fully anchor it. Hopefully this way I'll strip a nut before I pull the stud out...

Took it too the local muffler shop.
Worse than I originally thought, both cylinders head extractors had worked loose over time with enough gap to allow the gaskets to disintegrate, causing the flanges to drop.Studs were rusted solid (well it is 16 years since the Soob left the factory)
Also would explain the nausea and headaches after driving the Soob around
Both sides studs had to be replaced, with new gaskets.Over an hours work, bloke charged me $50 which I thought was reasonable .I considered doing it myself but would have resulted in lots of swearing, bad back, grazed knuckles and relationship strain
Now its soooooo quiet and feels a little more perky !
