When you make the slits I'd suggest drilling a hole at each end a little larger in diameter than the width of the slit. Its an old engineering trick to stop the slit, which is like a crack, from growing.
So measure then drill your 2 holes, then cut the slit from one to the other. Try to do it evenly so there is nowhere for the stress to concentrate.

If you have to, file it down smooth so that there's no areas for a crack to evolve fromnachaluva wrote:measure then drill your 2 holes, then cut the slit from one to the other. Try to do it evenly so there is nowhere for the stress to concentrate.

well the tent arrived yesterday, so all systems go was todays plan. have got it all on except one bolt as i lost it
but will get a replacement tomorrow. the plastic roof rails seem to be more then strong enough for the job as i have been in it and tested it out. the new firmer and lifted kings springs also insure that the car doesn't sink much all when im in it.
the pictures show the tent folded up on the roof but with out its cover and the slits made in the roof rails. all thats left to do is figure out how to install the awning which means understanding the instructions
and then test it out!

i will get some pics of it all finally set up and using it! defiantly worth the money as you save so much room in the back of your car. i WAS going to read the instructions for the awning but turns out it didn't come with any hahaha. i will eventually figure it out surely...El_Freddo wrote:Yeah mate, neat!
Got some pics of the tent when it's all ready to go? Keen to see the final result!
Instructions - pfft! Read them after all else fails! I've been told that's what my Grand Father used to do!

Very cool, Makes me want to get one. I saw one on ebay in sydney but they don't ship to perth. Anyone willing to pick it up for me and ship it with e-go? Happy to pay you a little extra for fuel and help. But first i need to win the auction:)

Very nice thunder. How is the drivers side of the RTT supported? Cant see poles, just the ladder.
Love the fly & the window awning, should help keep it cool in summer... kool
Those awnings are very useful, dont take long to set up & make lunch in the rain so much nicer.
Guyph, quick, make a post... you're on 1,999!

the fold in the tent supports itself, but relies heavily on roof strength. so for your sake i hope its secured very well, as ive had a few tents come back, and had ripped the roof rails off big 4x4's after 2 ppl sleeping in it

Hi guys, i have the opportunity to snap up this rooftop camper pod:
http://portmacquarie.gumtree.com.au/c-V ... =355101861
only problem is it would hang about 40cm over the front of my roof:P
Am i right in guessing that would be unsafe/illegal?
