roof racks
as most of you know i have a roof top tent on my 99 foz which i have mounted without roof racks via the standard roof rail.
me and my girl friend now have another forester 2nd gen, so i want to make the tent fit it aswell. i want to use roof racks though this time due to mine i have scratched the paint a fair bit
so the question is what roof racks do people suggest for a 2nd gen foz and what are the wieght rating on these? due to they need to hold the tent (50kgs) and two people will say 150-170kgs so at least 200kgs

Hi Thunder,
I don't have a foz, but have got Thule and Pro rack roof racks. The pro racks moved around heaps off road and are now collecting dust in the shed.
As for weight you should only have to worry about tent weight, for when you are driving.
I'd look for some rated at 75kg.

In a nutshell yep. The rating is used when on the move, not when stationary. But it is always good to be on the safe side, hence why I've run with 3 roof racks on the camper. Later I hope to use 4 with a few other mods to the camper for some serious touring...thunder039 wrote:so two 75kgs roof racks will be able to hold 200kgs when at standstill?
Cheers

i was thinking of using 3, but due to the roof line is slightly curved it may not work as they need to be level.
did u have any troubles with yous with 3 roof racks? or are the l series roof ralatively flat?

I was going to suggest 3. I run Rhino racks, slightly more expensive than some others but bloody brilliant.
They don't move and sit slightly higher than the roof rails so the roof isn't scratched.
Ive had everything but a tent up there on them or in the basket. Probably close to 150kg once (not while moving). This was on just 2 and I didn't have any issues at all.
I wouldn't of thought that the roof being curved would be an issue. Atleast if it is with 3 the two oouter ones are holding the tent and the middle one is there for extra support when people are in the tent. It would proabbly flex and sit on it so atleast the weight would be spead even more compared to 2.
