Definitely maybe... Depends on if I'm in the country or not. Would be great as I haven't seen any of SA or WA before.

Im going to watch this thread. Cofffin Bay was my wife and I's favourite place when we travelled around Australia... We just wished we could have stayed there longer.

Probably wouldnt be taking a Subaru if we went but im sure the Subaru guys from WA would travel easier having an Auto Electrician tagging along.

I'm planning on leaving on boxing day (or the 27th) and head across to be there for New Years Eve. I'm thinking the trip will take 2 days rushing or 3 days just cruising. I'm due back at work on the 10th of Jan but I'm trying to swap some time with a work mate. If this works out, I'm hoping to stop over for at least 10days, then the drive back to WA. Again, hoping to sight see along the way back.

Anyway, that's my plans if that helps?

Yep i'm in too, I don't think there will be another Ausubaru trip organised like this anytime soon. Last one i know of was when Bennie came to WA, not sure if i was a member then...
Anyway only need to fix the wiring, Hopefully Dave can now sort it out with the wiring diagram i found and get the 5stud hubs and new wheel bearings/bushes in the rear. Apart from that its just a question of organising the camping stuff.

Note to the WA crew/cars that are going... Since we are going and coming back together, Would it be a good idea if we got together and organised our tools and spare parts. That way we each bring less but more if you get what i mean. Instead of bringing 4times the same tool... what do you think?
and like Dave mentioned he can cover the elec side for us:)

I won't be able to be there for New Year's, but if the WA guys will be over there for that, maybe the Viccos are interested in driving over around Jan 3rd??? We would make it there for the weekend and hang around for a few days??

Let me know what you think!

Pedro.

Sounds good Pedro! Venom and I have our return trip sorted :D Get ready for a touring trip on the way back, probably a week in itself

I'm not a definite yet, it'll almost be a last minute decision as I need to see how things pan out here - I also need to find out what's happening at work at that time of year as it's all new to me

Cheers

Well, as how things are planning out I could be up for the trip :D Could probably only come for 7-10 days at the most though :(

EDIT: Guy I think that is a bloody good idea!

Hi all,

I am locking in recommended dates for this: I will leave Melbourne on Thursday, 3rd Jan and spend 10 days on the road, so arriving back in Melbourne on the Sunday, 13th Jan.

Haven't thought about where to stop on the way to Coffin Bay, but El_Freddo's suggestion of somewhere in the Mallee country for the return trip sounds great.

So, who else is a definite in from Vic??

Cheers,
Pedro.

Well I've been doing some math to work out a few things if I can come for the trip. (Depends on work)

With the $$ side this is what I've worked..

Averaging 11-13l to the 100km in my Forester I'd get ~450 to a tank (50L to be safe, rather than pushing it to it's 60L capacity). So 450km to 50L and the average fuel price would be around $1.65 (better higher than lower for my calculations) so that's ~$85 to a tank of fuel.
Now it's 2300km from Perth to Coffins Bay each way for us WA guys. Round that upto 5000km for the trip there and back. Plus another ~500km im offroading and other shit. So if I say 6000km for the trip in a week or two (however long it is). My fuel bill should be around $1100.
Could I safely say that $1500 is adequate for petrol? I also want to allow another $1200 for any major break down/repair or freight back to Perth in the event my very unreliable Subaru needs shit done to it
Obviously food and extra money too ~$1500
This is just for me alone as I am unsure if I will be carrying passengers in my car (yes I'm single lol)
I am in the process of sorting out what else needs setting up/fixing in my Forester...
So would 4k be adequate for my expenses. Now being an apprentice I need to start saving and sorting myself out..

$4000 dollars hmmmm... Taza what do you eat :)

For that sort of money; I would fly to SA, buy a bomma out fit it to sleep in, meet up with the new age travellers, then drive it until it threw a conrod and fly home :)

But in saying that, if I had $4000 dollars it would vanish, as Bill would suck it up before it got to my wallet. :(

$4000 dollars should be plenty and if you get your 2.5 in before you go, you won't need to have the freight home money.

Good idea to talk budgets Taza!

I see what you're doing with the over-estimation, much better than doing an underestimation!

Fuel will be the biggest cost overall. In 2007 when Bros and I headed over to WA I think we spent about $2500 all up between the two of us - food, fuel etc. Fuel definitely cost the most though!

If you managed to spend an entire $4k I'd be asking what you're doing. But it's always great to come home with some funds left over than to be working your arse off to be covering a debt!

Cheers

El_Freddo I was saying that 4k is enough to be safe for any circumstance that could possibly happen. I definitely don't expect to spend that much but as you said over budgeting is better than under budgeting and being short ;) :D

I am still undecided as to whether I can go for sure but would really like to..
A- The car needs repairs and other touring work done.
B- Money for the trip (Apprentice wages and 4k isn't really possibly to save in 2 months unless I win the lotto)
C- Time, depends how much time I get off over Christmas and New years. I think it will only be two weeks. I'd like to go home too, which is 650km north of Perth and to leave on Boxing Day which makes it harder... but we all have to make sacrifices :)
But I'll see what happens, a spare seat in someone elses car would cancel out 2 of the factors :P

Otherwise I will definitely have to make the next trip in 2016 or when ever it may happen!

Oh and yes I'm an apprentice now, left uni to become and auto sparky :P
