Well I just bought a in car nav system of ebay and I can say that it is really good, very simple to use and heaps of features.

Gday Mike can you tell me if the nav has all streets or just major roads and have you had a good play with it yet as i am thinking about getting one for my wife thanks

This one has all streets even the little couldersac that my daughter lives in and it has about 6 houses in it, even tells you when you arrive at the house number that you put in for your destination.

What is it like if you get out of town and on to a 4wd track? Does it show mapping or does it just stop at the end of the map? I want to get some thing for my car too but don't know what to get.

You will find 90% of the GPS unit on the market will only do major roads/towns. 96% of the population as the sales speech goes....

Brett you would be looking for a Magellan eXplorist hand held.
They have topo maps & street maps. It gives you the best of both worlds.
