low tyre pressure and peeling a tyre off the rim?

Post by robdddd » Tue Sep 25, 2007 11:39 pm

Hi,

After some advice......if you break the bead on your tyre while playing around in the sand at low tyre pressures, what are the tricks to get it back on.

Someone told me to spray it with carby cleaner and throw a match at it.......sounds like a "Darwin Award" atempt to me?

Anyone have a simple description of the best way to get the tyre bead back on and leak free?

rob

lol if u break it u wont get it back on but if u roll it off then yes carby cleaner or the liek shuld work that way

otherwise make sure ur not going to crazy and ull be fine

(or the other option is put an aircompressor in ur car and blow it up fast lol)

the ol flammable stuff in the tyre and chuck a match at it actually works really well!

but you will still need a compressor to pump the tyre to required pressure

you need to clean the area the bead seats really well tho, a few bits of sand stuck i there will most likely make it leak

a bottle of water with a squirty top on it, spray all the sand out, and you may get it on well enough to get you home. (with an air-compressor obviously) i believe subarino is the master of this technique :)

Watch this: It has the flamable method of putting a tyre back on the rim

There is a bit of jeep trashing action going on, but watching the tyre pop back on the rim is great, wish i knew of this years ago... still yet to try it though.

Cheers

Bennie

Ps that jeep takes a beating, and take note of the broken rim - pretty hard to do i'd imagine, shortly after this part is when the tyre trick is shown.

Pretty much how I do it.. You need a compression slightly bigger then those el-cheapo tiny ones.
Although last time I had to I also had to break the other bead to get the dirt that was packed in between the bead and the rim. Used the drive over technique to get the bead off.

Water idea turned out not to be the best... water builds up in your tyre which stuffs your wheel balance big time. Nothing beats good old fashion compressed air... i run a compressed air tank now inflated to 100PSI to help fix this problem in a hurry.
