16" options for beach/road driving

Post by kndkris » Mon Mar 16, 2009 9:27 am

Hey all,
Anyone recommend a good tyre for mainly road/beach driving? on 16's.

Car has Fulcrum coilovers with 2" body lift so clearance is fine, currently running BFG All terrains on 14's (yup, brenny's old car, celica mags)

The tyres are amazing, great on the beach @ 18psi but its getting to the beach thats annoying, things are quite loud on the road and quite inefficient.

Basically i drive 200km's to drive around on the beach for a day, so i am chasing a tyre that is great on the highway but still really good on the sand (strong sidewalls so i can let them down to between 10-20psi) on 16" mags (forrest gt).

Cheers guys.

Post also acting as an EOI on the 14" celica mags with bfg's on them.(WA)

Maybe the Geolander A/T-S..? ( http://www.yokohamatire.com/tires/geolandar_ats.aspx )
I haven't heard many good things about the Geolander (not sure which exact tyre), and my experience with a set wasn't too good either. I had a few sidewall issues in only months that I owned them. But the Geolanders I was using, were the H/T-S (more for road), And they were driven often on rough gravel/rocks :D

Maybe for just sand n Road the A/T-S could a winner?

A light truck tyre might do the job too... Some of the WA members have experience with this, if they read this they may part with some stories of their experiences.

Cheers
