31s on a GL wagon

Post by JG12gauge » Wed Dec 30, 2009 9:25 am

I just got a 1981 subaru GL wagon for use as a backwoods/ winter car. I have a set of 31 inch tires on 15 inch wheels I modded to fit a 4 lug on my dune buggy. Has anyone ever tried this before? If so how will it affect my torque. I dont really want to bother with a whole new gear ratio on this cheap old thing so do you guys think it will decrease the torque severely or will it not be a big difference.

An EA81/82 will loose almost all its power with anything bigger than 14" wheels.

Wouldn't be too bad if you just run it in low range all the time. It would probably just feel like it's in high range. With tyres that massive you probably wouldn't need low range anyway unless your planning to go rock-crawling. Certainly wouldn't get bogged in sand anytime soon.
