tyres and rims Outback 08 - larger aspect ratio?

Post by bcoutback » Sat Sep 17, 2011 4:30 pm

Hi,

What aspect ratio tyres have people been able to run on recent model Outbacks?

I've got an 08 and I'm looking to get 16" rims and some more ruggered tyres.
After reading around a bit, I'd consider a set of 205 width tyres but in the tread i'm looking at that comes with an 80 aspect ratio. (compared to 215/60R16 Subaru notes for the 16" size in the manual)

My other option would be to stick with the 215 but try to get the aspect ratio to 70.

I guess i'm trying to sneak in a little extra height. What do I need to specifically watch out for when increasing the aspect ratio?

Any advise welcome.

Cheers

I dont know how much different your wheel arches are to mine, but the very very biggest tires i can get on my 16" rims are 215/70 /R16 before they will touch the bumpers.

Measure your max diameter that will fit between bumpers (and also importantly under strut perch) then use http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html to find the right size for you from your preferred tire manufactured.

Got any photos?
How much clearance to the bumpers do you have?

Did you do anything about the Speedo difference?
