Replacement Rims

Post by Mark_G » Sat May 19, 2012 8:02 pm

Does any one know what non-subaru rims will fit an 89 Touring Wagon. 2 of my rims are slightly different and rub on the steering arm ball joint. I went to pick'n'payless (Blacktown) this afternoon to get some replacement 13 inch rims but there were no L series cars in the yard.

Happy to go up in size or increase the width - but what's are the limit on width and diametre?

I've never heard of this happening before! What are those rims from? If they're stock subaru there's something wrong there - majorly wrong. Even the sunnies from the earlier MYs will clear this, but fouls on the brake caliper when the pads are healthy.

Have you tried the rear wheels on the front to see if they clear?

How big is your lift?? I've got 14 inch rims with 27 inch diametre tyres. I can run the stock 23 inch diametre on these rims, it's just a case of getting the right tyre to fit...

Alex managed to fit 29's with a three inch lift and the crazy boys in the US have up to 32s!!! But that's too much for the stock subi box.

What you're after is probably as simple as another set of stock rims from an L series to fix your clearance issuse ;)

Cheers

The rims came with the car when I bought it about 3 years ago. All the rims appear to look the same until I discovered this problem - two of the 5 rims are slightly different in appearance, which I've only just noticed.

I noticed the front left is scrubbing out a bit after 3yrs of light use, probably just from cornering around round-a-bouts. Anyhow I noticed the interference with the ball joint when I switched the front to the back.

Not fouling that much I took to it with a grinder. After several attempts to get some clearance I managed to spring an air leak - rendering the rim useless. Now I'm down to 4 wheels, one being the spare with the same rim and a poor tread.

There is a lot more clearance on the front with the other rims that I have, so they are definitely different rims.

The vehicle is stock - no lift kit.

I agree, I need another stock rim, however couldn't get hold of one today, and there is currently nothing on ebay.

I had an opportunity to get 5 sunraisers from pick'n'payless a few years ago - $50 each, but couldn't justify the cost when bought the car for only cost $230. Pick'n'payless haven't had any leones the last couple of visits, going back a couple of months.

I'll keep looking.
