...and everyone now knows I use a plastic vernier

I'm not sure those 'BIMECC' ones are the answer aye, theres no way that in relation to the 17mm nut those tapers are dia.29mm (refer to picture of OE nut, page1), i'd say you may as well use the subie nuts as use them.

You will also see on the picture of the OE nut that it has a groove around it, the inside (hub side) of this groove is the conical part of the taper, which centers the wheel (they are not hub-centric on a subie), then on the outside (nut side) of the groove is where the straight taper is, to tighten the nut. You can also see on the photo of the OE nut, that there is no residue on the ball seat portion of the nut in comparison to the straight taper, showing just how little pressure there is meant to be on the part of the wheel.
The ball seat part of the wheel isnt very thick at all, I wouldnt like to go down the ball seat adapter road...

wouldn't call it a bolt, but looks like nncoolgs' nut. Get 'em !

Thinking of the non self centreing Turbines on my ute, no taper on end of nuts, just fat washers and wide base and 21mm hex bar ? keep it all secure. May be possible to redrill pug mags to suit same style of nut - you'd think it'd been done before and posted up !

If thats possible count me in.

So paranoid about driving the car now. I really am completely uneducated with the sort of stuff and shouldn't be doing things myself.

Changed back to my 14" Sunraysia's and the car is definitely making a few extra noises.

I checked underneath the car and couldn't see any visible damage but I am no expert.

When i put the normal wheels on I was in a hurry and the bolts taper of the normal bolt didn't quiet line up with bolt hole. Will this cause the wheel nuts to loosen?

I checked after a 30 min drive and I could tighten the bolt after i had just done so.

Don't be afraid of doing things yourself, be cautious, ask questions research and read.
The wheel nuts shouldn't have come loose, but then again you may not have tightened them enough to start with or you may have a slightly bent stud or perhaps even the nut is bedding down on the hub before the wheel.
Just keep checking and tightening if you have to but I believe that as soon as possible take the vehicle and see a wheel specialist, no not your everyday tyre and wheel joint but a specialist who is more into service than sales.
I'm not saying the tyre places are not any good but??
Don't give up and don't loose heart.

Think we need to ID if there is a difference between Pug 14" and Pug 15" and Pug 390mm nuts as well, just in case ....am getting odd memory flashbacks to French cars and captive washers and three studs per corner too ???

A quick call to a Pug parts guy reveals that the floating washer of the originals was superceded by either Pug themselves or aftermarket to a full one piece design - sometime in the nineties - and no sorry none in stock NLA.

Bimmec is in Italy - anyone got Italian heritage, speak, write Italiano ?

Hey Guys

Thanks for all the support.

Panic is finally over, the nuts are on there way.

I have booked the car in to a driveline specialist who is going to check everything out. Hopefully its all good. There is definitely a few extra squeeks and rattles but I'm hoping nothing to expensive.

Once again thanks guys. Will post pics of my car soon.

I have emailled the Bimecc dudes in UK with some request for details - no reply since sent on Sat night our time. Might be nice of Giles to give them a buzz to get, some verbal confirmation and some specs be nice eh ?
