EA82T spare tyre

Post by timmo » Sun Sep 10, 2006 4:28 pm

Cars with the EA82T came with a space saver from the factory didnt they? Was this so there was more space between the turbo and the tyre? will I have any issues if i put a normal spare under my bonnet? ie will it get too hot? what do you other fellas do?

Cheers.

Yes you will end up blowing the side out of the tyre.

You can mount then in the boot there is a thread ready to accept a mount on the LH side

as above. you will cook one side of it. I used the boot mount with my sedan with a suitably sized bolt to hod it down.

Yeah I thought that might be the case. Would it be worth having a go at making some kind of heat shield with a sheet of aluminium or something? Its for my wagon so i can always just throw it in the back, but it will be annoying eh.

if your donor is a RX then it will have the heatshield already there for it. best option is in the back though.

nahh its not an RX, theres only a small heatshield between the turbo and the trans. Might just try and fabricate a bracket to stand it up in the back of the wagon. Thanks for the advice

My 27 inch spare is either in the boot or on the roof bars.

Well that could be very handy. I havnt had a chance to have a look yet - does a standard spare fit behind the wheel arch on top of the jack storage box? If it does that would be perfect.

cant seem to find a threaded hole in my 87 wagon now that it took me ages to get the trim off! Is it behind the guard on the LHS so the wheel stands upright on top of the storage / jack compartment? Will have to make my own bracket I think using some threaded rod and an existing or new hole, especially since there is a dirty big speaker getting in the way there aswell. Another job to add to the list...
