Tyre advice
Looking to get a new set of tyres some time after exams. I currently have 195/75/R14 road tyres on the car and want to replace them with something similar. Most work is done on bitumen with a fair bit of country driving, and the occasional sandy exercise.
What is a reasonably priced tyre that is suitable for this type of work, quiet at high speeds and durable?

See what comes up here however a good option I would think would be to have a look at a few tyre places and/or manufactures on the net and see what they recommend I) for Jap cars and II) For Australian conditions. This way you can see the tread patters, tread wear rate into etc. Also remember things like the compromise between a hard and soft compound tyre and YOUR driving style and what YOU want/like in a tyre.
I always find tyres a bugger to purchase as you only get em once in a while and the technology keeps shifting (which is a good thing) and if you get it wrong you could have em for a while, or you sell em 2nd hand and start again.
For what its worth I have been running the Pirelli P6000 (I think that its P600 for 14”) and I have to say that they have been great for road (both wet and dry) beach work, a little soft, compound wise and not to flash on the gravel not totally dangerous and out of control either though (but that might have more to do with the ball bearing surface of WA then the tyres. Oh and I know that Tim_81Coupe has a set of these, I do not recall asking him about them – Tim?.
Will be interested to see what other report.

Toyota 105 Series LandCruiser (that nobody on here wants to really hear about).
RX Touring Wagon - fitted out for 4WDing (currently collecting dust).
RX Project - will be road only at this stage (and currently taking way to long to finish).

by what you want, your not asking for anything special ?,so just go to your best deal tyre retailer and get what they recommend, probably give you a few options at different $,
However if the "country driving" means a lot of dirt road marbles...then your bitumen tyre is very sadly lacking, and very easy to loose it round bends...you could go into a tree or worse. I just about never use road tyres on dirt anymore (got 2 sets)...learn;t lesson quite some time ago..lol

If this is on an L-Series be aware that you tyres circumference are 12.6% bigger than stock and so your speedo will read about that many % lower than you are actually going unless you have had it calibrated or got a gearbox to compensate in the speedo cable line. If Liberty it is 5.9% bigger.julian wrote:Looking to get a new set of tyres some time after exams. I currently have 195/75/R14 road tyres on the car...
The stock Michelin tyres that came on the imprezas I cannot fault, although they are not cheap by any means. MX4 Energy I think they were.
