Bent Desert Rat!

Post by sublime » Tue May 08, 2007 11:37 pm

While my 78 wagon was in for some work that I was to lazy to do myself, my mechanic (OK it's REX :-D ) informed me that one of my 14x6 Speedy Desert Rat rims was buckled  Sure enough it was!

At $65 they are cheap to buy, however, I am interested in others experiences/opinions.

Has anyone else had a buckled Desert Rat? My wagon, at 29 years of age, gets treated like a baby these days and I certainly don't go bush bashing (so to speak!) like I used to and I cannot rember the last time I hit a pot hole or gutter. Any one else had problems?

not sure if the rats are not as strong as the suby sunraysia 13s, but i had a mechanic recently point out (again) my buckled 13 and warn me that one day i'd come round a corner too quick and the tyre would just peel off the wheel and I'd be sad.

I do believe him, but i've had the buckle since I hit the gutter (oops) 6 years ago and have never given it a second thought in that time, in terms of how i treated or drove the car.

The mech also insisted that i'd be lucky to find somebody/something capable of bending / hammering it back out. Not sure how accurate that is..
