Nankang Super Trippers
Nankang Super Trippers
hi,
Where has everyone been getting these tyres from? i've been to every tyre store in Morley and no one has heard of them before. They have all been offering me BFG's and toyo's for over 200 each. Can any store in WA get them in?
thanks

Matatak... I've heard many comments against getting alloy lift kits. Bent or simply snapped lift blocks under off road stresses didn't attract my interest. There have been plenty more people going for the steel jobs and they'll last longer than the frame of your Subie. As for weight, they work out about the same in the end and the steel ones are treated so that they don't rust. A no brainer I think.
'91 Sportswagon - 3" lifted, 14" speedys, 27" Nankangs + lots of small details improved. Wouldn't mind some extra grunt from an EJ.

As far as rims and tyres. I've just got a new set of Speedy's arrive at the shop for me to pick up and one stockist of tyres told me just today that they can get me 4 Nankangs. Only four and not 5. I'll have to wait for a new shipment for the spare. While that guy wants $125ea I've got one other supplier who has offered them for trade price of $110.

Some one has been pissing in your pocket if you have been told that alloy kits can bend or snap. Think about it for a while. How can a solid alloy block bend or snap? The reason people go for steel is because it is cheaper. It is the typical Subaru owner syndrome. No other reason. Sure they are treated, but the treating will never outlast solid alloy.subalex wrote:Matatak... I've heard many comments against getting alloy lift kits. As for the tyres, simply go to the nangkang website and write down the url. Take that to the tyre shop and say here it is, get me a price.

I can honestly say, BYB-01, that the then President of the Subaru and Recreational 4WD Club, a Subaru trained mechanic and highly experienced Subaru offroad driver and modifier was not trying to spin a yarn when he told me that the alloy lift kits had actually broken on cars he'd seen himself on some trips and those returned to him to try to fix at his workshop. However, this may have been because of improperly tightened bolts (that he commented had snapped on a few).
However, this is getting off the topic. I've been told today that just next week there will be a shipment of Nankangs here in Sydney for the buying. I'm getting some then. I tried passing on the number of Fourbys in Brisbane to my tyre dealer but they came up with an "out of stock" response from their supplier. Who knows... maybe they're keeping them all to themselves for the Queenslanders!

Smoov, thanks for the advice there. Thanks to you I drove home with a new set of Nankangs today. They were the only store that I called with a set in stock since the warehouses etc were all saying that they didn't expect any more in Oz for another 8 weeks... a line that I've been getting for weeks already.
Anyway, that was the last of their stock, in fact, I could only get 4 from them so I've kept one of the old, slightly smaller, tyres for a spare that I could use in a pinch until new stock arrives.
Only disappointment is that I've now got to trim the guards.

lol lifter tick is still there, but i dont want to keep that engine so im not too fussed about it. i still have to order the lift kit, just thought i had better get the tyres before someone else bought them. Does the 3" lift stop rubbing altogether or is there still some trimming that needs to be done?
