14 inch wheels on a non-lifted l series
Hey there, man what a cool site! I havent bought the car yet, but its a 1990 l series. ive put down a deposit. I was after some advice: The garage are going to fit two new tyres but if I can fit 14inch rims on it, they will hold off getting the standard 13 inch tyres until I get the larger rims at which time they will fit 14tyres. This seems like the go as bigger rims/tyres will look cooler, particularly if I lift it later on. So I tend to crap on BUT my question is can you fit 14inch rims with normal sized tyres to a non-lifted L series? also, it has a bit of rust under the screen. How normal is this and is it something that is going to be a problem sooner rather than later? its about the size of a fifty cent piece and the car has done 200k. It doesnt appear to have rust anywhere else.

14s are fine, if anything i think they are standard on some anyway?
I'm not sure how big of rims you can get before a 2" lift.
Rust around any of the seals isn't good... but for a car of its age its to be expected and it should be a too big of a problem in the near future, also check along the rails of the body (between the front and back wheels) and places which require you too actually get down and have a look,
as not to miss anything that could be hiding.
If that is the only rust on it though with 200ks, sounds like a good buy.
Hope this helps, and Welcome, do please enjoy the site.

L series come standard witha 23" tall tyre on a 13" tall rim. You can change to a 14, 15 or 16" rim and still keep to a 23" tall tyre if you wish.
I have run a 24" tyre (195/65R14) on an unlifted L without trimming the guards and it looked pretty tough. Note, if you change the diameter it will effect your speedo.
