It must have been out before the change. technically speaking. if you increase the rolling circumference it will travel further per revolution. meaning.. at the same rpm as before you will be travelling faster.

my stock 07 impreza's speedo is out about 5 km/h according to several different gps's

I just grabbed some 14" rats and after reading this, I am not too sure now...may stick with the 13's for just road use now and the 14" for offroad only(Toyo 710 treads on them now...). I have put new rubber on the 13's(yesterday)in the shape of old school 205/60R13 Y352 Yokohama treads with the raised bling bling writing:p(they dont come without it now - have to live with it!!). $145 per corner fitted and JUST fit inside the guards;). The speedo conversion from the pirellis is 97kph actual at the indicated 100 on the dial to the Yokohama 100.7kph actual at 100kph indicated - hmmm have to be careful now!!

As for the offroad prowess, the 14" inch granted will give you better roll over bumpy poop driving however went to the backblocks last week-end in the snow from Picadilly Circus to the Cabramurra WS via Mt Gininni and you pop out at Adaminaby. With around 30 cm of snow and really bad firetrails and the soob-that-could didn't even raise a sweat however I think the 14" rats will make the trip a bit slower but give me more clearance over the rougher stuff. I had to stop regularly to clear out that silly air dam on the L series as it was clogging with snow and throwing it up over the bonnet and the windscreen.

I reckon you keep your 13" for the road and the 14" for your off-road exploits - best of both worlds and really doesnt take a lot to change the wheels.

Keep on Trukkin'

The negatives of 14" tyres on-road are far less than the negative of changing all four wheels every time you go on or off-road.

i tested mine with 2 gps devices and it was 10km out.

also. im running light truck tyers and they rub on guards a bit but its worth it for the bigger sidewalls and all round off-road advantages....
if its not native its not cool.....

I am hearing you - I hate changing them around!!! My driveway is like a mineshaft and I do it in the cul de sac...I have to back the mini UP the driveway just to get him in the garage!!!

Ive the nankankg super tripers which are 27.5" and it roughly 20% larger than stock, ie now 80kmh is really 100kmh. There's a few steep roads near where i live which I struggle on now with a car load of people, even 2nd is to high and I have to go to 1st. By myself I can make it up the same hill in 3rd only needing 2nd for about half of it.

As for off road im not sure as I havent had a go at anything steep yet, but bog holes have been fun and no drama's.

stock Lseries given a Lift, 27's and Welded or LSD rear also go very well offroad compared to a stocker.

what are the widest tyres you guys usually put on without them rubbing on full lock and are wheel spacers frowned upon? just to get an little bit wider tyre...

Why do you want wide tyres in a 1100kg car with 80hp? They make steering harder, increase rolling resistance, chew up wheel bearings, and these cars already have a very stable width/height ratio anyway. Wheel spacers are frowned upon, but that doesn't stop lots of people using them.

You can fit 27x8.5" tyres with a bit of non-structural butchery, but I find 185R14s are ample. 195s in a slightly lower profile (65-70ish) would probably work too.

i was just thinking after an EJ22 or EJ25 conversion and for off roading i just assumed that the wider the tyre the more traction etc but im very novice so was just a thought(not rediculously wide, something like a pajero width or something)
but if it's not a big issue then im happy with wheels not scrubbing etc and dont really want to muck around with wheel spacers...
now i know what to go for with tyres.
cheers
