my wagon's 6 stud conversion

Post by Alex » Tue Sep 09, 2008 10:59 pm

so today i picked up a set of 5 nissan terrano rims for a bargain price, all with pretty good tyres. One has a brand new desert dueler on it!

the tyres are pretty much 29inch(235/75R15) and are friggin massive, i really want to fit these tyres under the car. The rims have a slightly more -ive(i think) offset which will move the wheel closer to the car and wont stick out like the speedies im currently running.

Im not at all worried about the rear, they should fit very easy. The front however will be a different story! Im thinking about making custom radius rods to push the wheel further forward in the arch as the only thing i can see holding me back is the wheel hitting the firewall.

Before you say it, i know theyre chrome, if they look shithouse ill get them painted!

See the pic below. Please note the car is sitting very low due to a flat tyre and en-even ground there. You can see the size of the tyre next to my spare 27inch kumho muddie with 100% tread

watch this space, as i'll do a detailed writeup with a bucketload of pics.

Remember with longer radius rods you can only get a little adjustment before it twists the control arm too much where it mounts to the engine crossmember - will flog out those bushes quick.
Although look into where Matatak got his new radius rods from....they are insanely thick and look great!

Should be able to get them to fit somehow, but I doubt you will ever get full lock steering again, even Vidler's orange wagon scrubs before it gets there!

**Edit, lemme know if you want to come over and use the drill-press sometime.

PS I think it will look good with the Chrome :)

just had a quick play and got the first wheel on. (only 2 studs tho)

they fit pretty nicely. Obviously abit of trimming and bashing will be required. Im getting another inch of lift on the front to help also. Very happy with the offset.

I like the rims but hte tyres are too big for my liking. 235/65 would make your life easier and still look awesome. probably still rub though

yeah i only bought them for the rims really. But if i can get these tyres to fit nicely its a good bonus! Dont really want to get new tyres yet.

Good luck with the project.More lift could be the answer to get those wheels under there. You could move the x member 20mm forward and plenty of other custom stuff. 215/75 15 can be made to fit with 2" lift.

im bored so i thought id post up a progress report

re-drilled 3 of the 4 hubs last week. Could get all done except one front because the drill bit got blunt :( the last hub is at an engineering shop getting drilled cos i couldnt be stuffed with it anymore.

Car sits friggin big! cant get over it! We did some pretty serious panel work yesterday which involved a block splitter(can be seen in pic1) amazing how easy it is to bash in the firewall! Also trimmed down the front of the fender which Dave did awesomely!

Took the opportunity to shove new rotors and pads on too.(i hate doing l-series brakes they SUCK!!!!) and i painted the hubs red for WANK!

heres some pics.

hopefully getting the other hub back tomorrow, so i can roll her forward and get some proper pics of it.

cheers
