The green was probably my least favourite colour Vortex but that one looks in good nic apart from the broken door handle. The Marquie rims are a good match for it too but where is the boot lid spoiler? Makes it look like a non-turbo.
Is it an '85? 2WD turbo? Probably auto?

yeah.. can't answer the spoiler question but I can tell you it's a 6/86 Turbo with a FWD manual and a/c and p/str.
I'm not too happy with the paint either and was thinking a nice new coat will make it look a million bucks. The rest of the car is in great nik and I brought it for $600 cause the original owner had removed what he thought was a faulty injector but turned out to be a leaking inlet gasket.
Oh.. and the door handle is just faded

must be the way the light/shadows are hitting the car

Fair enough on the door handle. They're kind of funky how they fold right down if you push them all the way in. I've seen plenty that won't stand back up again though.
I love a good Vortex, probably would own one again if I lived closer to town. Can't understand why your daughter doesn't like it, she's probably just "young". Maybe she'd rather have a new A-class?

I'm sure she wouldn't be allowed home anymore if she brought anything other than a Subie home

but she loves her Subies too. She is putting her first car together now

a 1985 RX Sedan that she wants to have while she's on her 'P's and after that she has her eyes on a 2005 Impreza RS sedan. She told me at first she didn't want the Vortex because it only had 2 doors and she couldn't take her friends to the movies.. she later confessed that she thought it was "ugly" She nearly lost her free board

Yeah RSR, Nice vortex! I've got a set of rims like those sitting in the shed waiting for a set of 27 inch rubber to be wrapped around them - all in good time... Yours look in much better condition than mine, I'm wondering what I can do to perk them up a bit - polish or spray..?
Look after it mate, they're becoming a hard one to find in good nic!
Cheers

Many of us wish light 14" 4 x 140 rims were grass seeds .
I think Vortexs are a bit like E Types , you either liked them or you didn't .

Paul showed me his vortex when I dropped of the carpet for the rx, what amazed me was the stack of service receipts/oil filter tops bolted to one of the panels under the hood.
It is in good nick but it needs an ej20t and all the running gear under the body as well then it would be shiney
Paul gave me a funny look and said something about keeping it stock....

What do you want 4 stud rims for?
Just bolt your Crossbred 5 stud kit on and enjoy the benefits of 20th century brakes and off the shelf remote canister 5 way adjustable front struts!

I used to think they were bloody ugly when they first came out. Some RICH poser/tosser neighbour had one new (didn't like him or his taste in cars or girls) I now like the shape, hate the dash control stuff still too space ship like (wonder what his missus looks like now?)
Nearly tried to buy one recently with no owner details and a removal order on it. GONE. Then there was another at a wrecker who is dreaming on it or its component value. I like the lines and can see how fat rims and Brumby red paint and AWD power plant would go well. Tastes are a changin'

Thanks guys.. I know what you mean about either liking them or not. Sort of reminds me of the feeling people have against the new Impreza.
Brumbyrunner.. I think the 5 stud conversion is a great idea (I even brought a kit myself) but they aren't as cheap as a set of old 4x140 rims. I'd love to fit later model brakes/rims to this but the car cost me all of $600

Hey, sorry about the mix-up and the whoring of your thread.
That comment was directed at discopotato03 who was remarking on the 4 stud rims when he already has a 5 stud Crossbred kit for his RX Turbo, but has been too busy trying to tune an old EA82T for power instead of fitting it.
I've probably spent my life driving cars with oversize wheels and/or poor brakes but I just couldn't believe how well the standard brakes on a Vortex pull up. It's like the Road Runner stopping...

brumbyrunner the economics don't add up to going that way atm .
I stand to do better selling the Rex wheels and brakes and brand new CB kit in its box than fitting them and getting less than they cost .
I'll have to part this car out when I've finished with it because I'm not giving all the expensive parts/mods away because of the appearance of a 24 yr old less than concourse standard L Series .
The std brakes on my RX Turbo never cease to amaze me considering their size and its lighter than a Vortex for the same sized brakes .
I'd love a set of lightish 14" wheels because I could get into better quality 14" tyres and maybe even go slightly larger OD for gearing reasons .
Can anyone sell me five OE 14" 140 PCD wheels for a reasonable price ?
Cheers A .

Would be nice to have but I like the power output as it is.. keeps std Brumbys n the rear view mirror

No probs

I like the different discussions, helps pick up new ideas and peoples experiences. I brought my kit about 2 years ago and haven't fitted it yet either

I need just a few more parts for my offroader then the fun starts

We have a shop over here that deals in secondhand rims only (Mr Mag) and he has the occasional set come through. We got these from there last year...

Also I didn't know there was an 80 series 185 13" tyre available .
Cheers Adrian .
