27 inch tires?

I've seen some mention on the US Subaru site about fitting 27 inch tires on 14 inch wheels.

My Subaru is a 1984 GL wagon and has 14 inch tires ...... Just what is a 27 inch tire anyway?

No, you're subaru GL wagon has 23 inch tyres on a 14 inch rim. You can fit 27 inch tyres on a 14 inch rim but will need lift to avoid body scrubbing issues.

The 27 inch tyre refers to the diametre from the outside to the opposite outside edge of the tyre itself, not the rim!

Does this explain what they mean?

Thanks Benny.... that's what I thought. The subie tyres do look a little small but plenty of clearance between tyre and body.
