No such thing, first STI's we got were the 2 door V5 STI's in MY99 configuration, I have the vin for a 2 pot vented MY97 but it's JDM & a couple of thousand k's away.

Andy, are you chasing the single pot slid model or the single pot per side of the caliper (twin pot) model like 01 STi (bugeye) model?

Paul
One single pot per wheel
apparantly the seal kit is "special"

The 02 is the bugeye :P

Yeah that would be the 97/98 with the vented caliper like mine, only a single pot brake.

How can it be a typical vin? Vin's are individual for each car arn't they?

no theyre not. Only the last part of the number varys as a build number.
the first few specify model number, wagon, hatch, motor etc etc
JF1 refers to the 2door sti model i think.
someone has written out what they all stand for on here sumwhere.

some sample Subaru VIN's of course, the 4DR WRX not there on its own being a variant of the GX etc
Even though they have same construction the VIN is regarded as a body number pre 1989 stuff

try this 10/97 model wrx aus delivered, grey black "sti" interior. 2 pot vented front 1 pot (solid? its dark outside now) rear brakes, late EJ20G (ie EJ20G block, EJ20K heads, intake and ecu) trans is TY752VN6AA which the only info on the net shows as UK model WRX 2000 GT. 3.9 rear diff.
JF1GC8KD3WG026790
I have a 8/98 model as a daily that the VIN is the same but 5000 odd later but different engine type model number and trans but same ecu and electrics. i can check if the rear rotors are vented in daylight if you need.
97 & 98 models world wide are a mish mash of parts bins specials of whatever was laying around before the change to "late 98 / 99 on" types, late bolt pattern heads, 8 bolt gearbox pattern, rear thrust crank etc. But i have also seen early 98 models with factory rear thrust cranks and 8 bolt gearbox pattern too.
