I have 195/60 15 Yokahama Cdrives on my 2nd gen Lib. I can be an aggressive driver but have been happy with the grip they have provided over the 20000k's since they were fitted in Dec last year. But I reckon there is only 10000k left in them. I have given them an occasional hard time on sealed and good gravel roads like the back routes from Goulburn to Oberon or around Captians Flat behind Canberra. Like they all say about yoko's soft tyres but plenty of grip.

Sometimes I make it onto more firetrail type tracks. This is where I feel least confident, mainly that those soft grippy yokos will get cut or torn or have something go thru them.

So for my next set I'm looking for something tougher. I can handle the low milage for the sake of grip and steering response, but not feeling like I'm driving on eggshells. I've looked at genuine off road tyres but can't seem to find any apart from slim pickings that would require changing to 14'' wheels.

I'm also considering going for 205/60 15's as they are only 2% larger (which would correct my slightly fast speedo), and also seem to be available in higher load ratings. I suspect these higher load ratings have something to do with the physics of simply being a larger tyre rather than materials/construction.

So any suggestions?

My 2nd gen lib wagon as 230000km on it; standard height king springs, nolathane bushings and boge (german) shocks that were fitted about 25000ks ago.

Generally, I'd suggest to move from the passenger tyre to the Highway-Terrain tyre (H/T). In theory, they are supposed to be a bit tougher. They are supposed to be driven 95% on-road, 5 % off-road.

I did a quick search for the H/T tyres in the sizes 195/60/R15 and 205/60/R15, and could not find any.

Your next best bet would be to get the long-wear passenger tyres, such as http://www.michelin.com.au/tyre/pattern ... /EnergyXM2 or http://www.jaxquickfit.com.au/tyres/bra ... ur-seasons .

They are made with the tougher rubber, which would resist better to tearing by a rock, and also would resist better to wearing by gravel.

The Michelin XM2 tyre is marketed as having been designed especially for the developing countries market, where the drivers have to drive over the bad roads with potholes. The Michelin tyre resists better to the tear and puncture due to novel design of carcass, they claim.

Anybody have any thought on the Goodyear Amourgrip?
