Guide to 15" audi rims on a Suby with 4 pot brakes

Post by Venom » Mon Mar 04, 2013 2:41 pm

There are very few options for 15" rims that fit over Subaru WRX 4 pots. Most are very expensive rally wheels that cost $300 each or more. This is the way I've gone to get 15" rims over my 4 pots, so i have more options for off-road tyres compared to 16".

1996 -1997 Audi A3, 5x100, R15"x6", ET38 rims with 57.1mm centre bore fit on a Subaru with 4 pot brakes. They're basically WRX rim offset, so sit out wider than the factory Subaru steelies but still sit within the guards.

Test fitted them on my car and they have heaps of room over the 4 pots.

They're light (5.8kg) and forged alloy - so they will bend and not shatter like most after market alloys.

2 small problems with them- they use a ball seat lug nut (Subaru are cone type), and the Audi center bore is 57.1mm compared to Subaru's 56.1mm.

The only source of M12x1.25 ball type lug nuts i can find was here:
http://www.otisincla.com/product/B-D31R ... l-Cap.html

The alternative is to get cone to ball seat adapter washers. Much cheaper, but i decided to go with the lug nuts. Conversion washers here:

The only source of 56.1mm to 57.1mm hub centric rings i found here:
http://pdt-services.com/en/centric-ring ... to-56-1-mm

Post '97 Audi rims are a different stud pattern. Make sure you get 5x100 Audi wheels! Do not use cone type lug nuts on the ball seat type Audi wheels without an adapter washer.

Will sort out some pictures later.

Cheers,

Rhys

Hi Rhys
I don't know if they fit 4 pot but have you looked at VW (newer type) wheels there are about 3-4 different models and certain years
I did have it written down what models and years but must of thrown it out they have a good offset for wider wheels

Hi Jan,

I've only briefly looked at other Audi/VW rims. The problem is they change PCD and centre bore fairly often, and i couldn't find definitive info on what is used when on what cars... and some wheels look exactly the same but suit totally different P.C.D. These specific wheels are the only factory 15" rims i found concrete info on fitting over 4 pots.
