Wheels Weight Comparison

So while I was doing some other car chores today I decided to weigh some different wheels, the results are pictured below:

Image
Peugeot Flat Spoke 15" 505 sti wheels, 17.4kg

Image
Subaru Motion 13" Series 2 Vortex Turbo Wheels, 14kg

Image
Subaru Universal 13" Steel Wheels, 14kg

So yeah, the steel and alloy Subaru wheels both weigh in at 14Kgs, but the Peugeot alloys are 3.4Kgs heavier! So I guess the factory wheels are the better option for performance and fuel economy. Glad I kept the set of Motion wheels!

...Finally got some tyres stripped off:

Subaru Motion wheel, 6kg

Peugeot 505 STI wheel, 9.5kg

It would be interesting to get some weights of some other aftermarket wheels like the Superlite, SSR or Simmons!

Not pickin' just sayin' a better more er scientific comparison would be bare rim weight, then add individual choice of tyre to the total equation. I say this Nev, with experience in mind of tyre stripping - some tyres just feel heavier than others same size, whether due to tread depth or just its total composition , can't say

I've got a bare scorpion rim in the shed that I reckon needs a weigh in as I've nod done it before...

I thought the vortex rim was 14 inch?

Cheers

The STI's had the flatspokes, GTI's had the splitspokes.

And yeah elfreddo, the vortex mags are 13's. I think the only factory 14's are the ones that were on the RX/II coupe that look like a trash can lid...

Not sure if we want to turn this into a library of different rim - tyre combinations, but my Forester rims below:

Forester OEM steel rim 16in: 10.5kg
Yokohama A/T-S 215/65R16: 12.5kg
Total combination: 23kg

Forester XT alloy rim 17in: 11kg
Yokohama H/T-S 215/60R17: 10kg
Total combination: 21kg

You cant compare weights of different sizes. IMO, the Peugots are 2" bigger but only 3.4kgs heavier so not bad. Also consider tyre weights of bigger tyres...

yeah but you cant run them without tyres so practical weight is what counts.

Finally got some tyres taken off, added bare weights in first post.
