15"x7" Too Wide?

Post by NachaLuva » Thu Aug 01, 2013 9:48 am

I can get some 15"x7" rims cheap but I'm wondering is this too wide. It is for 215/75/15 muddies for my '97 Foz when going offroad only.

The tyres are 10mm wider than standard & 15"x6" rims are standard so these would be 25mm wider. This will make the sidewalls sit out 7.5mm more each side than standard tyres on standard rims. They are light truck tyres so good puncture resistance.

What do others think?

Should be fine. Many vehicles run 215 wide tires on 7" wide rims.

My 2000 Foz had the same width setup you're describing. Looked great and ran well!

I ended up getting Audi A3 wheels for the muddies:

Will go nicely with the tyres:

Still thinking of getting the 15x7" rims instead of the outback 15x6, ET+52 rims I currently have for the Geolanders (205/70/15) as the better offset & wider rim will improve handling onroad, which is 99% of their use. Only prob (apart from finances lol) is the have a ridge that runs around the rim behind the spokes that could collect mud, unbalancing the wheel...

Wouldn't be worried about wheel balance unless you're going to be doing some serious speed while caked in mud. Big clags will come off easy anyways...

Them rims are pretty as. Very nice. Might have to get some other hub caps though...

I've edited the previous post to make it clearer:

I've found after a day of driving in the mud with the Steelies, they picked up mud & unbalanced the wheels, causing vibration on the drive home. Twice this has been pretty severe. Annoying as this is the time I'm hyper-aware of any issues after a tough day on the tracks... :(

They are nice & so light! I'll sand back the Audi logos on the hubcaps & glue Subaru badges over them 8)

nothing holds mud as bad as the 15" forester steelies. they are shockers.

I reckon the audi rims will be brilliant in this regard. they are basically one continuous slope away from the hub. Should shed mud nicely.

Brett used to run 15x7 alloys on the bright orange gen2 that ended up in WA. he loved them.
