The Kumho Road Venture MT KL71 was the joint winner of 4x4 Magazine's 'ultimate tyre test' to establish the best mud‑terrain tyre on the UK market. It shared top honours with a BFGoodrich, beating offerings from Goodyear, Wildcat, Maxxis, Cooper, INSA and Pirelli by a significant margin

I'm wondering how a set of these tyres would go in sand - dig holes too much or get the float up well?

I'm only asking as this is one thing I'm a bit nervous about with the upcoming trip. I had a great set of all rounder tyres in the Wild Conqueror Super Trippers

Then they got old and went "buldgy" so I had to use my offroaders as daily treads.

Back to the Road Venturers, I think I've got the old tread pattern to what Nachaluva is looking forward to. You can see my tread pattern in the pic below:

I can't afford another set of tyres at this time - it's either tyres or offroad trip - and I'm choosing offroad trip this time around!

Any input would be great.

Depends on the sand of course but if you are down they'll be fine. I'll take traction over all-terrains any day.

But you guys over east mostly go in mud compared to us WA guys so yeah should be good for you.

What are you running them on. The only reason I ask is that if it a light weight like a brumby then you may not have enough weight in the vehicle to balloon out the tyres to make them really effective on the sand. It also depends on the sand that you are driving on. When I used to drive areas like Stockton Beach in N.S.W. you needed all the ballooning you can get cause the sand is so loose. However, areas like Fraser Island the sand is so hard packed you can drive a 2wd along most of the beach.

Sweet. I should be fine, was just a bit anxious about them in the sand.

The sand we're headed to can be very fine and soft, but with all the rain we've had I would suspect it to be rather firm for this area.

The vehicle should be heavy enough as it will be loaded up for a week's worth of touring gear.

This question came about as I've started to go through my check list of what could go wrong or be an issue, so thought it worth getting some opinions

just saw this, Bennie i had a spare with one of these kumho muddies.

Had to let it down to basically 2psi for it to bag out a small bit on the beach.

Good tyre, but abit unnecessary for a suba.

Sorry, cant answer your question, dont know L series, but they are an awesome muddie, although heavy

Hey Pedro, yeah they're very light & also forged not cast so strong. They're from Audi A3, '97 to '03.

You'll need hubcentric rings:
57 1mm 56 1mm HUB Centric Rings - Qld - eBay

Also custom wheel nuts:

The only thing i don't like about the Kumho Road Venture MT KL71 is they are directional tyres so you can only rotate front to back

Great looking tyre tho it was the only reason i didn't buy them

Thats part of the reason I did buy them lol

Although rotation is a prob. I have 5 tyres...how do you rotate 5 directional tyres without having the tyres on one side wear more than the other (one side has 3 tyres to rotate but the other has only 2)
