Speedo gearing

Post by Blitzen06 » Tue Oct 29, 2013 10:49 pm

Hi all.

I've recently put 195/75 14s on the L Series wagon.

Having replaced the stock 13s the Speedo now reads 60 when we're actually doing 70, as one would expect.

Does anyone have a solution for this problem, some sort of cable gearing thing maybe?

Thanks, Martin

Yep.. will happen all the time. Bigger wheels will make your speedo read lower than what you're actually doing, so best to call these guys and they'll sort you out :)

I had a cable done in brisbane with a part from a transit van. 14`s with 27`` muddies is out by .2k at 100ks on a dyno with tyres at 40psi.

Most manufacturers list different speedo drive gears, do Subaru?

yep. i suspect you could fit liberty speedo gears to an L box to sort this out.

I put outback speedo gears in my liberty auto box and the speedo was perfect with 27" tyres

There's a place in Melbourne called Flexdrive industries. Years ago a put a Supra gearbox in a Holden ute & they made me a little gearbox. It screwed in between the speedo cable & gearbox. I know they're still there cos it's next to my dad's place on Mt Alexander rd. Don't remember it costing too much either.

Cheers Jake

Keen to know if this place is still there. Would save messing around trying to get the right gear in my gearbox to sort out my speedo's accuracy.

To the OP, the original way to sort this out now is to get a GPS and drive by the speedo on that. It's very accurate ;)

Cheers
