For sand and road try Nankang 185R14C 80 series. 650mm OD or 195R14C 669mm OD. Then there are The super Trippers 674mm OD but guard trimming I have just discovered may be required. Above is the Nankang link to commercials and this one to super Trippers http://www.nankangtyres.com.au/prodDetail.php?pid=23 Then there are a few tyre Calculators you can play with which will give you a better understanding of OD's and footprint. Commercials are better on road and sand than an agressive tread for a N/A motor (non Turbo, naturally aspirated) http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html and http://www.wheelquip.com.au/tyre_calculator.php?

My preference is always for the 27x950x14 BFG All-Terrains. If I had a reputation I'd stake it on these tires.

With the Pug wheels you may also find that they fit rather well.

This Brat (US Brumby) has 14" Pugs and the afore-mentioned tires, although sports a 4" lift.

don't the BFG AT's need a min. 6" wide rim to fit on? most pugs are 5 1/2". The nankangs i know for a fact are specified for a 7" rim, but are happy enough for a 6" rim; would be dicey trying your luck on a 5 1/2"?

Super Trippers

Post by KERRY » Wed Nov 30, 2005 7:56 am

Yep u r right smoov the Super Trippers are 7" rims but the other link for Commercials I put up 185R14c 650mm OD and 195R14c 669mm OD specify a 5.5" rim.

I would sell the peugeot rims and opt for Scorpians or Speedies for the Super Trippers for sure.

The Trippers are only 5mm biggers than the 195R14c though, depends if he wants a hard core offroad like Trippers or the Commercials for on road mainly. I believe the commercials are 6ply, one of those plys are steel as well. Not sure how many ply the sidewalls have though.

Peugeot rims

Post by KERRY » Wed Nov 30, 2005 8:59 am

Humvstopper, I would be interested in those peugeot rims if you opt for speedies and Trippers.

I do not know how long it will take for me to get a decent shed to do panel work on mine. I am aiming for the trippers but would be happy enough to get 669mm high on commercials as a second set of rims 5.5" wide at the moment.

I would not expect to do any trimming with 5.5" rims and 669mm OD Commercials. I believe the Trippers are 205's and may require some fender widening with 4wd side rubbers as well for qld. compliance.
