Gents,

The front mudflaps on the outback gen 4 are shite. They don't prevent stone chips on the rear wheel arch and they take up precious space inside the fron t wheelarch minimising clearances between the tire and wheel arch.
I'd like to replace them with something similar to the ones used by rally drivers i.e. the thin plastic (not rubber) mud flaps.
First question is where can i get them from? Second is, how best to mount them (&where do I get the fasteners from)?

Also, has anybody tried plastic welding Safari snorkles to modify their shape/geometry to suit a outback?

fastners are available thru any good auto store probably just get some mazda bravo flaps and chop up to suit

I have discussed having a custom stainless snorkel made by him. He has modified plastic snorkels to fit foresters but in his opinion it is easier and cheaper to do up a stainless one.

In reality guys use almost anything for rally mud flap material, but you are probably refering to the urethane sheeting about 2mm thick, come in all sorts of pretty colours but is not cheap, about $150-200/m2. Cheaper options are often to brittle and end up breaking.
Almost any good plastic and rubber supplier should be able to sourse it for you.
The other option is applying something over the rear guard area where the stones hit, rally cars often sheith this area in ali sheeting, you might try a sign writer and see if you can get some self adhesive thick clear rubbery stuff that may do the trick.

Bolt them through original mounting points, use penny washers and nyloc nuts
Also need to bolt through to passenger footwell/boot areas on the inside.
