The bullbar looks cool with the grinder run over it. Sorry if I've missed this somewhere, but did the bullbar already have that look to it or did you do the grinding thing.

That is the finish from the factory. It is not factory standard finish but I needed the bar now, not when they could have it pretty for me. It is very lightly rubbed like that. A quick sand and it would be ready for paint.

He's just staying up to answer my questions, this is all haha.

I think you should keep the bullbar like that (if you weren't already).

Superchargers, H6 and other stuff - 04 Outback

Post by Outback bloke » Fri Oct 31, 2008 5:20 pm

I am just tossing around ideas at the moment for the engine upgrade for the Outback. The 6 is an option and at this stage the most likely but I am not ruling out forced induction.

I have been reading a bit on them lately and this one seems like it will be the go if we go that way. Any one heard any thing bad about them yet?

I don't want to get in to the supercharger/turbo discussion yet. That may come later.

I am thinking supercharger at the moment for low rpm throttle response and torque which is ideal for towing and offroading.

CAPA in SA used to make SCs for Subarus, aimed at the hen RX Imprezzas - 6-7 years ago they were about $4.5K a kit.

I contacted a while back and they have stopped making them as no demand - they put me onto your mob as an alternative.

Big rep - CAPA make a very solid, well researched product

Goodluck anyways, super charges are simply 'ace'

Looks pretty good but jeepers, hardly seems worth it for prices like that. I'd go 6cyl for your application.

Not heard of that brand of charger before...

Those centrifical blowers wouldn't do much for your bottom end as they are essentially a belt driven turbo and therefore aren't very efficient at low rpms. top end would be a different story but thats a little irrelevant for towing, +1 vote for H6, or maybe play around with a roots or screw type blower such as an eaton? What motor has the car got now?

How about 6 with a small overdriven blower? Good oomph at low rpm but not enough puff to blow the engine at high rpm. (Would that even work??)

I vote H6 conversion with dual range 5 speed with RA gearset, adj. centre diff, 1.59 low range, 4.444:1 diffs, front helical or suretrac lsd, rear clutch-pack lsd and a good organic clutch like Exeedy extra heavy duty.

I vote that too but the bank balance won't allow it.

I have been searching for H6 engines and what not and the best way I can see if to buy a complete stat write off car. It is still going to cost more than that supercharger.

I don't know if I like the idea of the "turbo" style blower either. It is probably the main reason I am hesitant about that kit.

If you are going to rebuild the 2.5 to take more boost (8 to 10Psi) then go for the supercharger. If not go the H6.

I think I will be supercharging my EJ22....... ;)
