Adrians Suubmarine '99 GT fozzy

Post by longy99gt » Mon Jun 14, 2010 7:57 pm

Started with a '99 GT white fozzy MT completely stock
Thrashed it off road fair to say,
2 clutches, radiator, 2 airflow meters, idle bearings, and anything else i have forgotten,
realised i need a few mods, so here they are,
UHF radio, remote head in roof console where the clock was,
3mm steel sump guard,
2" block lift - ausubaru/byb
mild steel RAM air snorkel, _ will be ready to paint it on thursday, then drop it in,
the hole is already cut, template will be made soon,
Yoko ATR's going in this wednesday,
19mm rear sway bar

Future Mods
custom boot draws/slide etc,
will basically remove all those little convenient hatches, and put down ply/mdf, and make a couple hatches, spare wheel will be removed, and deep cycle batteries will be stored there, and other stuff,
i need to do this to mount a fridge securely as the are insufficient tie down points,
may even find a donut fuel tank to go in the wheel well?
help will be needed for that one

roof tray by tracklander, then a solar panel mounted to the underside,
bull bar with spotties, (might get a uni bar with spotties for now)

thats the way to go. I have a false floor in the back of my car and its brilliant. I keep all mytools and spares in the tyre well, and the floor is high enough that i can get stuff in and out of there. my tent and camp chairs fits under the false floor, meaning i can get that stuff in and out without unpacking anything. My fridge / battery / food boxes are mounted on top and just stay there.

I made a frame out of 25mm box section, put some 6mm ply on top and then carpeted it. It has made camping out of the car so much easier.

How do you find the single range gearing offroad? It's 5MT 4.444:1 isn't it? With LSD rear?

Does first gear let you drive slow enough to negotiate obsticles?

Thanks.

haha yeah, unlifted and stock, on slipery rocks, it certainly struggled, and the clutch was very very smokey, and stinky, that was probly the main hill the reduced it's life, the clutch died a couple months later, that day was the main cause,
but now with a lift, and ATR's, it goes much better, and i havent really had any more smoking clutch days, except last week, and the murchison 4WD adventure park, on their obstacle course, thru much and up steep hills...with f@#$ed suspension...i did get thru the rest of the park well, in general, dont really need the low range, but there are certainly times where it would be handy for sure!

yeah it went well, not as many fish as you caught tho, was fairly windy, and normally in the wrong direction, so it wasnt helpful, stopped at most places only about 2 days, before moving on again, didnt do toooo much damage to the car...
