My 85 brumby

Post by Subie Snax » Mon Aug 02, 2010 8:53 pm

Finally finished the paint on my 85 brumby..
Been off the road for a year, after driving around in primer for a year...
Got my best mate who's a spray painter/ panel beater, to paint it, however i did most the prep work and my mate guided me and made me re-do bits that wasn't right.. spent months worth of weekends working on it..

Next stage of the project will be interior and motor,, once the funds allow it..

will put more pics up once internet speed picks up, i breeched my cap

Thanks.. what colour you going.. It took me ages to decide on a colour, i was thinking green, then i was thinking black, or top secert gold, but i thought i would go with a safe colour like the blue.. Im pretty happy with the choice..

i wish it was your color... but i just got a miss-tint (= cheap $$) its a darker blue.. thinking of throwing in a silver or pearl or gold glitter to lighten the color

If you want to make it lighter you can use a silver for a base colour, to ensure a even finish (so you dont see repair spots), then dont use too many coats of the blue (say about 3)... I used 4 coats of the blue then 4 coats of clear ( so that i had plenty of clear to sand back and buff, to get the high gloss finish).

that looks great! until you do something like that its hard to appreciate all the time and effort that goes into a great looking paint job.

Did you weld up all the trim holes? Would of been a PITA but it looks great.

Cheers for all the encouraging remarks... I didn't want to use a normal tarp, so i filled those holes, the body looked straight before i started untill i got the straight edged hand sander on those panels and every panel had tonnes of low spots... i ended up spending ages on every panel, skim coating every panel with bog and hand sanding all the curves till it was perfect... Its probably straighter now than the day it rolled off the boat..
Next on the plan is to pick myself up a donor car, thinking something like a 98 impreza and putting the entire drivetrain including dash brakes, etc.. just need to save up for the donor car and the crossbreed kit..
