The GRUMPY Brumby
Cheers Chinski, Not sure when I'll hit the track next, I'm desperate need of new rubber and I want to get some wider rims aswell, so looking at a couple of grand...but it'll happen one daychinski wrote:mate well done ! the grumpy brumby looks great ! good to see you getting it out at QR too !! if you're heading up again & post here first if i see it i'll come up for a look, would love to see a brumby on track showing up & surprising a few people !
Once I cleaned the area up with a wire wheel, I drove it to a mates workshop....(no windscreen makes for a breezy drive
) and the holes were welded up, I then had to shape the welds with a die grinder & metal burr.
Turned out Ok I think, hope to re-set the windscreen this weekend with new rubber.
Cheers

Thanks for sharing ...

Note: When you do put the seal back, I would also put a bit of fresh silicone around the rubber to help seal it better ...

Add : In FHI speak, they call it the 'angular line' or 'datum measure point', this is where you want to seal it ...

Also make sure the 'drain grove' is not blocked at bottom of screen ...
P.S. - Did you spray inside the frame with any rust treatment ?
Ciao, Bantum ...

Jake, the ~$100 for a new windscreen rubber is good insurance I reckon, plus those rubbers become brittle and crack, letting moisture in where it's not welcome. Pop it out and put on a new rubber sealRodeo4jake wrote:Good job with that repair, I often look at mine & wonder if there is the beginnings of this trouble hiding under the rubber.

Good to know this! I couldn't get Sunnie the Brumby's ones back on, now I know why! Also damaged them when I took them offchridk wrote: Make sure if you ever try this, that you insert your crome surounds before fitting the screen to the car, it would be imposible to do it when in place.

Anyone know where to get new ones from?
Cheers

Nearly lost it there on about the 3rd lap ...
Tip : You'll also have to super glue the rear view mirror in place to stop the vibrations from moving it ... !
Note : The glue won't actually hold for long, but will make the ball joint & socket tighter ...

Haha Bantum, It was running off the track and hitting two maassssive pot hole that moved the mirror. Thats an indication of how hard the hits were.Bantum wrote:Nearly lost it there on about the 3rd lap ...

Thriller ...
Thanks for sharing, I bet you had to do change of shorts afterwards ...
I've had my stock Brumby up to about 155 km/hr, that's about as fast as it would go ( revved it to the max ) - mind you that was at the end of going down the main strait at hidden valley, Darwin ... Awesome ...
Unfortunately brake fade and bad handling stop me after about the 4th lap ...
Did you have any down force happening on the rear ? i.e. rear wing ?
Cheers, Bantum ...
