1998 Outback Build
1998 Outback Build
So with the demise of my L Series I have purchased a 1998 Outback limited model. It has a EJ25D Engine that was overheated to the point that the ignition leads melted

So a replacement engine will need to be found. It has dual sun roofs and everything is in working order.
My plans so far are:
1. Source a replacement engine.
2. Add a lift kit not sure what way I will go with this.
3. Custom Roo Bar which should improve aproach angles.
After this is who knows.

Unfortunately I doubt it but I am going back out to the old girl on Monday with the hope of at least recovering the lift kit and roobar but I will be surprised if it has not already been stripped. But worth the trip to see if it is.

Well an update on how things are travelling, I got a quote for $2200 for a second hand engine and installation with out the instalation the engine would still cost $1850 by itself.
And another wreckers is wanting $1100 for just an engine. I have puled out plenty of EA81's and EA82's engines and from looking at the EJ25D engine it looks pretty straight forward. I have watched quite a few you tube videos on doing this, but my only concern is the electrics and the ECU do I need to do anything special with regards to the electric connectors and the ECU or is it just plug everything back together connect the battery and it should start ? Any tips would greatly apreciated

I'd keep the old motor for spare bits + make sure to get a similar 'new' engine to same specs as old ( Also make sure to get one with the wiring loom attached ) then it should be a simple mater of swapping everything over - you could do that yourself to save money, or if not capable ( like me ) - find a mate who can ...
