My 1985 Sherpa

Post by JET-6 » Tue Nov 20, 2007 9:18 am

Guys just wanted to show you what you can do to a Sherpa even when everyone tells you nothing will work, well i found wheels, tyres and all needed to make the car look tough

There wheels are 2007 Honda Jazz wheels, the only mods to fit them was tap the rear coil area flat in the rear gaurd and machine the brake drum hub flange down to 55mm, the front had no issues at all

The tyres were quite hard to find in OZ, but after some research in found Federal made them, there size is quite rare in OZ, there 155/55r14

Then some adjusting of the coils to get the ride height down and done, a sweet sitting Sherpa

Painted the bumpers satin black to break up the yellow a bit, and the tint, mmm

Modified the dash to hold a CD player in the factory spot, i had to drill out all the spot welds on the heater controls and choke mount and mover them all forward 25mm, then refit, CD fits perfect now, made alloy plates to go behind the rear side panels to mount the speakers to, and it sounds great with only rear 6x9's

That looks good enough for Ali G to drag his mates in at the 40k zone!
Very well done with the exterior, looks swish.
Any pics of the interior/dash though?

that looks like my old one. the mats I have ( when I get time to send them to you.) were made for that color car. so they will drop straight in.

you have no choice on the rear. keylock is integrated into the barrel.

Wanna make a bet Chris, i am making a slide mech to fix that issue, will take some mucking around, but it'll work

It will be a slide driven by an actuator, the slide will have a hole in it at the unlocked point where the pin from the barrel will go though to open the door, in the lock pos there will be no hole, and the pin will hit the plate!!!

I've never seen a Sherpa look so good! My brother's one was a piece of crap, especially after he rolled it.

Nice work.

Here is the barrel mods to do it, changed from a sliding plate to the rod, all the was required was a 35mm stainless hose clamp, a 6mm bolt, and the rod that come from the central locking kit, bit of cutting, some drilling and tapping

Not much to look at but you cant see it anyway, its very strong, im very happy with it so far, check the pics

The rod slides inside the hole drilled in the 6mm bolt, its threaded into the hose clamp and the lock, then the hose clamp is done up to shift the thread a few thou and it locks the bolt in the right location, this can also adjust the preload and the shaft, little bit of locktite once ive re-installed it and it will be sweet as

EDIT: Just got one of the doors done, came up sweet and system is working well, just the drivers door to do and its done, then wire the interior light to the drivers door, needs a switch put in
