Another Lifted L Series In Perth
Hey El Freddo,
Basically what I was thinking was a low tech system of running lpg on a turbo engine. I had assumed that the ignition system on a EA82T was controlled by an ecu, therefore the idea of using the cam blocks off a carb engine for the use of the elec dizzy. I'm new to subaru's so it has been a sharp learning curve.
I do realise the difference in the heads and that's what I'm counting on. The EA82 and the holden red motor are similar in that they are very strong and reliable motors that just need a little massaging to produce very strong performance figures.

Here's what I basically did for the 6 stud conversion.
Remove the hub from the car and knock out 2 opposing studs. Attatch the hub to the wheel and use a drill with a 9/16" drill bit to mark the hub in the appropriate spots.
Remove the hub from the wheel and use a drill press to drill out the locations for the new studs. Don't try and use a normal power drill because it's speed is way to fast and all you'll do is blunt the bit plus you may not drill the hole straight.
With the front hub i removed the stud plate from the disc (4 bolts) and ground flat the area around where the new studs sit. I found that the studs turned in the holes so I spot welded the studs. Using a 14mm drill bit will give a slightly small hole and you may not need to do any welding.
With the rear hubs i chose to grind a small flat area on the side of the base of the stud so that they sit flat. It's a bit hard to explain but once you see where the studs come through it's easier to understand. (I didn't think to take any pics, DOH!!)
Hope that helps.
Cheers Rob

If you're looking at this setup I think Steptoe has done an EA82T running straight LPG. It has been done and written about on the board, try a few searches to see what you can find. You'll only need the carb dizzy, the ECU dizzy has a crank angle sensor in it without any vacuum advance gear in there (the 4 plug units are like this, the 3 plug dizzy is different).amuck wrote:Basically what I was thinking was a low tech system of running lpg on a turbo engine. Also the turbo piston heads are not "flat top", they have a trough in them to drop the chamber compression. If you're after higher compression you may have to change these/rebuild a motor to your own specks... In which case why not do an LPG EJ conversion

Another holden boy eh? I know about the old Red's, used to have a 186 in the ol' tori. Good old 9 port heads... Went nuts!amuck wrote:I do realise the difference in the heads and that's what I'm counting on. With crank angle sensor - the 3 plug ECU MPFI had vacuum advance, the 4 plug ECU MPFI did not...Matatak wrote:but the EA82T already has an electronic dizzy?
Also, Matatak, for the 6 stud conversion, use a little WD40 when you're drilling the holes, its a good cutting agent

Cheers

Use a 13.5mm drillbit, you won't have no spinning studs. If you want to be more accurate than using a rim,use a 6 stud trailer hub remove bearing carrier assembly. You now have a template and the holes are already 13.5 ready for nice tight studs.Or evn better go to a small engineering firm and get them to do it.Matatak wrote:on another note to.
how did u go about the 6stud conversion?
simply drill through the holes in the wheels and knock a new stud in?
going to be doing my own soon hopefully

yeah id love to know also!
im hopefully going to pick up some terrano rims in the next few days(same as yours but chrome)
gonna attempt this 6 stud conversion.
