Either boot or roof, depending on how much stuff I end up taking... I want to get a jerry can before then, so might need that on the roof, will see.El_Freddo wrote:Where's the second spare going to be stored on the trip?

And here it is: my Subaxtreme sumpguard!

I didn't really like the undercuts from the griding... I wonder if they will become stress concentrators out in the bush and lead to cracks... (time will tell!)

And here it is installed:

I couldn't get it exactly where I wanted because the read of the guard was fouling on a chassis member:

So next weekend I will pull it out and chamfer that square corner.
Overall, I think the guard's ok. But really for the price it should be great, so I'm content, but that's it.
Cheers,
Pedro.

I wouldn't worry about the grinder over cuts, at least you've now got some confidence that comes with sump and extractor protection!
If you wanted to you could bring it to subaextreme's attention so that if it does fail prematurely you might be able to say something to them about it being a manufacturing failure.
Cheers

Yeah, that's the idea of taking a lot of photos prior to install. I haven't sent them an email yet, but planning on doing so...El_Freddo wrote: If you wanted to you could bring it to subaextreme's attention so that if it does fail prematurely you might be able to say something to them about it being a manufacturing failure.
I'm not overly worried - otherwise wouldn't have installed it - it's certainly better than the plastic. But it's just one of those things, it doesn't look very nice.

Pedro.

If someone's under your car picking on the look of your bash plate you need to change your driving style or get a very very good lawyer!!pezimm wrote:I'm not overly worried - otherwise wouldn't have installed it - it's certainly better than the plastic. I din't do anything else to the plate. I did contact Subaxtreme and got them to commit to repair/replace if I do get any cracks. I don't think I will get anything, but just wanted to have my bases covered.
Cheers,
Pedro.

Good idea. Shouldnt have happened in the first place though, & when will they do a proper plate alloy guard instead of brittle cast alloy. They've done such a good job on their other products, its just very disappointingpezimm wrote: I din't do anything else to the plate. As I mentioned on the "What have I done to my Subi today" thread, I got rear-ended about a week ago. I was driving on Kings Way getting out of the city. I was on the right hand lane as it stopped due to the amount of cars turning right on Park Street, I stopped, but this fella behind me was just switching lanes and didn't see the traffic stopping. I saw him coming as he hit me at about 40km/h. Lucky I had plenty of space ahead of me and managed to release the brakes to reduce the amount of damage from the impact.
Got the guy's details and contacted my insurance company. I'm taking the car in next Wednesday and will not have to pay any excess, which is fair enough...
Here's the damage:

The boot closes and opens perfectly, so Im thinking there's no alignment damage - which is good. I reckon it will be down to a new bumber skin and mounting bar as well as a new tow bar, which is banana-shaped at the moment.
I'll report what actually gets changed...
Pedro.
