Project

Post by legacytt » Wed Jun 20, 2007 10:46 am

Are you planning on getting this registered with the 6 inch lift Adam? If so have you worded up a friendly engineer yet? Have you applied to transport for a mod plate for the TT conversion? Will be an impressive machine, good call staying with the Auto. I am going to permanently lock the centre of the auto in my current project, but as it will only be used offroad it isn't an issue.

Ian,
I haven't bothered about looking into getting the car engineered or insured as i thought it would be a waste of time and not possible..
I was going to keep it registered, and there is a turbo mod plate on the car. But 6" lift is probably too excessive to engineer/insure.
Has anyone done it before?
Cheers

I have not done it however thought that there used post/warning on the Hi-Rise site that the 6” kit was not road registrable and had been designed for off-road usage only. Note – that I am also assuming that you are/have purchased 1 of these kits.
Toyota 105 Series LandCruiser (that nobody on here wants to really hear about).
RX Touring Wagon - fitted out for 4WDing (currently collecting dust).
RX Project - will be road only at this stage (and currently taking way to long to finish).

No worries fellas.
Glad your enjoying the slow and tedious project.
As for the sheds:P that big one is dads, he's a carpenter and need the room for the kitchens he specializes in. Not allowed to pull apart cars in there:( lol
Its all going well. real work should begin this weekend or one after. Wiring is giving me headaches and i haven't started pulling it apart yet:P
In theory the wiring sounds sort of fun. But when u actually get it out and sit it on your floor, its not fun at all. Don't know where to begin.
Thanks again guys for your positive comments;)
Anyone that wants to give feedback or criticize me are more than welcome;)

Conversion

Post by legacytt » Thu Jun 21, 2007 9:39 am

With the wirng the easiest option is to put the whole loom in and rewire the car as a Liberty as I did with your sedan. Otherwise get someone in the know to strip the harness down. I can put you onto someone in Launceston who could do it. With the TT it is very important to not miss the wiring that runs the whole TT sequential bit otherwise it will be a complete dog.

No wishing to dampen your enthusiasm for the 6 inch lift, but if you intend to drive it on public roads it is probably not wise to not get it engineered. Sure if you have an accident by yourself it is only your loss, but if you hit someone else you won't have insurance to cover their loss and worse if someone is injured MAIB won't cover you. Could get nasty. Also the car will stand out considerably and attract unwanted attention from the cops.

Thanks Ian for the wiring insight.
As for the 6" lift and driving. I will be driving it on the roads, but only to and from 4wd trips. I don't intend on using it as a DD.

Hey guys,
Just another quick update. Had some mates come down to my place this weekend with my lovely assets.
Thanks to Will for towing it down to me, muchly appreciated mate
Got a comfortable amount done this time, Got the 82T ot of the wagz, and cleaned a few things up.
Here are some pics of this weekends progress.
Have to get a second scallop in the 82T cross member, should be happening in the next couple of weeks. Not sure if the current scallop will be deep enough. Might have to investigate into it a bit more. Anyone be able to shed some light?
Anyways. Here are a couple of new pics. Hope you enjoy.
