I bought this today;

[/QUOTE]
It's a 1990 Legacy GT.
Automatic.
147,000kms.
Got a stupid WRX scoop on it, and some 17" mags.
Not much else really.
Pretty loud canon muffler.
Otherwise basically stock standard.
Pretty decent nick all over, body has a few nicks and scratches here and there, couple of small dents but pretty good.
Costed $3900.
Immediate plans are to track down a new bonnet cause this one has slightly faded paint and the offensive scoop on it.
Probably going to convert it to manual relatively quickly too.
It's to replace the RX turbo sedan as a daily, prolly going to be parting the RX out shortly (using gearbox in the Leggy for instance).
I'll update this thread every now and then when I do stuff to it

Looks pretty shmick. Dunno about chrome bits though.
Should be a much nicer thing to get around in than an L series.
Is it as quick as the RX?
Dane.

yeh the top strip is normally black but I think it probably starter to flake off so previous guy polished it off. I might paint it black again. Side strips were done to match the wheels.
It was forsale on rslibertyclub forums.
Doesn't feel as fast as the RX of course, cause its auto and heavier.
But I may go down the whole bigturbo/frontmount/ECU route at some point - never done that so far so it might be fun.
Should feel quicker once I get the 4.111 5spd in too.

Yeah I dont mind the early wrx scoop on it either. Thinking of same thing for my G1S2 RS so I can run the sti TMIC it has.

were these and, is this a 2.2 turbo, cause they reckon those blocks are the bomb with closed deck and different casting methods, capable of big boost on stock bottom end

yeah it is a fully closed deck on these old EJ20G's. 2.0litre.
Bottom end is supposed to be pretty strong but the heads are pretty crap, ideally it needs early WRX heads.

i thought 98+ sti heads were the go?

probably.
All I'm saying is anything but the original RS heads are the go. They have terrible flow and suffer from noisy tappets.
When they made the WRX they'd fixed the issue with a different design.
Actually I beleive when the RS's first came out in Australia there was a factory recall done and Subaru were replacing the heads with WRX heads for people.
But people with private import vehicles like mine which were sold a few years earlier in the Japanese market missed out on this.
I'll put up with them tho, the ones on this car aren't noisy (yet). If I decide to go for massive power later down the track I'll consider a head conversion.
WRX head conversion on this early closed deck block makes for a nice tough motor.

so andrew is there a way to tell if you got closed deck without pulling heads. i have 96wrx jap import, whats the chances of it being a closed deck block?

To be honest not really too sure myself. Suggest posting a new thread with the question. Best bet would be to post a question on RSlibertyclub.org too - there are heaps of guys there with encyclopedic knowledge on motor specifics like that.

Yep.. factory recall kit included new pistons to suit the later style heads. These EJ20G blocks are a great starting ground for building HP.

Small update.
Got a set of Bosche HEC716 coils, new leads and spark plugs to go in.
Also bought a towbar.
She's started displaying CEL code 22 which means the knock sensor itself is faulty, so I'm just sourcing a good price on a new one, otherwise I might pinch a known good one from one of my spare motors. With a faulty sensor it retards the timing on boost automatically just incase there actually is a knock.
