TOONGA wrote:Giles it took me a couple of weeks to find this one every time I sent a link to T'SUBARU it was either sold or the bidding had gone crazy. I was very lucky that this one came up but there are heaps on Ebay motors so all you have to do is be patient.

as an after thought Giles how come you didn't look around England as there are heaps of Fiats and Escorts in your neck of the woods

TOONGA
Most carby escorts and fiats are now worn out rotten as we have had Injection systems here for quite some time due to ever tightening emission laws.
You can get new webers here (from webcon in Essex) but their price for their unproven and not sure if we can make the adaptor sir offering wasnt dissimilar in price to what I paid from Oz - plus the exchange rate helped.
S/H well yes but would have then had sorting issues and mounting plate etc.
Jools you got a bargain for sure, I never thought to look stateside when shopping for my weber.
The original Hitachi was F%$*£D and had to be replaced, no repair kit for them here either. Since I did the weber fit (which is ACE by the way) I have come across 2 perfect Hitachi's that would have done me.......hey ho.
But they would never have given me the performance I get from the web.

It is rather sad that so many carbys meet their end that way oxidising into dust I know where there is a box of ADM34 carbys that are slowly dusting away.

I'm hoping once I sort out a bracket and why I have very little compression on cylinder 4, that my 32/36 will go on my car and will be very happy with its new home

old carbs that run rich is often blocked bleed jets/tubes and dirty in emulsion tubes.

low on compression? look up leak down testers or check net for plans and build your own. mine is here if you need to use, got to get car up when i home tho. should be home tommorow till 4 nov ish
"UNDERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"OVERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"HORSEPOWER" is how fast you hit the fence.
"TORQUE" is how far you take the fence with you.

my brumby now has an EJ22 in it around 11 am Saturday morning we started to pull out the EJ20 by 3.30 pm we were ready to start the motor

Saturday evening we went out for a run in the bush

this is how not to attack a steep bank in a brumby

Image

nice action work there Paul if you look hard enough you can see the indicator flying away

A big thanks as well when it came to repairing the mounts for the bullbar

Yes it was an awesome effort to get that engine in and don't forget we stopped for an hour for lunch.. and a big thanks Danielle for getting Subway

Good to see the bullbar made it home.. was worried that the wildlife would jump out and you'd be back next weekend to redo the complete front end

Yep.. I'm glad you posted that pic.. I was worried you'd be upset :( and yes I was worried that I was going to be hit by that flying side light :D

Goes to show what can happen when you give someone that much power :p

ouch! I hope the damage was limited to the side light only...you might want to consider a shovel instead of a bull bar :)

bull-bar, shovel front end loader earth mover haulpak not much difference in the way it was used :)

one minute I was moving (too quickly) the next I was watching my bull-bar disappear and thinking wow look at those guards flex and all that work for nothing that must have punched a hole in the sump :(

home in just over an hour (don't ask) on quarter of a tank of petrol me thinks this is a fun engine

haha.. I was quiet amazed to see the little damage even considering there isn't much metal left on the front of that Brumby :p

Sounds like you scored a bargain with that EJ22.. I hope you pay that guy that helped you carry it out of that backyard :???:

not sure about that, I'm pretty adamant that he had the light end and got to walk forward whilst pushing me through every obstacle he could :)

actually I noriced quite quickly as you kept steering me over childrens toys and car parts

but having said that The EJ22 is running like a dream I just need to connect up a PCV valve to stop cool down vapour in the crankcase :(

(good thing I grabbed a valve before I left)

I solved the positive crank case problem with the help of this diagram

Image

and some imaginitive piping (picture to follow when I get a real camera)

now my engine doesn't produce vapour at start up

then I went on to give the engine a flush and oil change

now Im waiting for the truck wash to do its magic on the engine and remove the built up gunk and oil

all in 2 hours :) (childrens nap time)

Here I am thinking I wish I could be getting up to same trouble TOONGA and others have been to get the same fun out of an EJ conversion when I remember why I went EA82T - similar torque figures :) as the EJ22 . Think I already know your fun ! But still, a carby EJ, gonna have to do one one day, toss out my EA81 stuff to make room.

I felt for your neck on seeing those sudden stop pics - who needs disc brake rear end when you have an earth bank like that :)

I had only seen cut off manifolds, thongs, EJ22's and engine bay pics untill that last photo. Car looks awesome with the white and black, bet it goes like the proverbial off a shovel too. Well done.

I don't quite get where the PCV valve is in that diagram, just wondering if i should have one somewhere amongst the weber conversion i just did...

Cheers,
Rhys
