Update on my Brumby

after seeing PhantomD's brumby I thought I would post an update on my old girl while she has 10 times mor KM on her clock

Im very proud of her

this how she looked just after I got her

Image

this is with the lift kit and 13" rims, I had to go to Perth and as it is holiday time I put the 13" on so I didn't get a yellow sticker (defect notice) as my 215'/65/14r tyres are way outside the guards

Image

and this is how she looks with the 215'/65/14r tyres on I scored the lift kit rims and tyres for 250 dollars I then bought a spare rim and 2 second hand tyres fitted for 80 dollars I also got 2 bogless and rustless guards from a mate in Perth for free hence the different colour white

Image

one day I will get around to finishing the motor mods but for now she runs great ( when I have a money tree:) )

PJ is now running an EJ22 with a Weber 34 ADM and Power steering

As a request from GOD I decided to go through and find some relevant links

So for those of you who don't want to read the 70+ pages here are some highlights

Haha I hoped this would happen! This car is obviously well loved and cared for from the pictures you have posted here.

The tray looks very clean on yours (mine is a bit agricultural), what condition is the tailgate in? What mods are you doing to the motor?

they tray has bog in it :( as does the tailgate , I have another but Im low on funds so I can't even paint it at the moment to put it on

as for the motor eventually an EJ22 but Im in the process of modding an EJ16 to accept a holley 320 carby and a dizzy all of which I hope to bolt onto the EJ22 when the money tree grows

Any progress on the carbed EJ? Are you modifying an EFI manifold or making a new one?

Dane.

My dreams to date :)

well I would dearly love just to pull out an ally welder (don't have one) and fabricate a manifold from scratch

otherwise a downdraught webber on an adaptor plate bolted onto the efi manifold and the injector holes plugged is another option (anyone got a downdraught webber they want to give away?)

my other dream is to mount a 320 holley(was give a working one one for free :) ) on a purpose built manifold (see first option) :(

Ive found several electronic dizzys at the local wreckers with cam mounts, it is looking like a toyota based one will be the best fit with an adaptor plate, failing that Ive got a fiori dizzy that needs a rotor button and cap that I can shove a electronic dizzy kit into (have kit need time to put in the dizzy) and mate it to an adaptor and away she will go (hopefully)

I still need to balance the new tyres but Im unemployed at this point as school has finished (thank the gods) (if I go back to teaching I will need to be paid way more to put up with the rubbish kids put out these days)

so sadly paying the rent and bills are more important than the project

anyone need a T.A. or a service man in WA (Im ready to start yesterday)

is that lift kit a 2inch or a 3inch? i wanted to put a lift in my car and leave the 13inch rims on. but after seeing ur brumby with the 13's on, it looks a little bit weird (the tyres dont fill the guards) so i might give it a miss untill i can get bigger wheels and tyres. nice score on the lift kit and wheels/tyres too. i could see why you would want more money to be a teacher. i was thinking about the hell some of my teachers went through and i would never be able to put up with it. you must have a lot of patience hahaha

It is a 2 inch kit and yes it does look funny with 13 inch rims on it

yesterday in my wanderings I found a ford meteor dizzy that will just about bolt directly to an EJ head so thats one less hassle to deal with on the motor

I did have alot of patience but Ive just about used it all up in the last 6 months of teaching

to the point where Im looking at working anywhere but as a teacher

If you want to go 13inch rims just go a bigger tyre.

i have 13inch rims and 185/80/r13 fills the gaurd nicely with a 3inch lift:)

185 r13 light truck tyres work as well and last forever

but Im sticking with my 14's :)

as she drives really well with them on I can venture down tracks without even needing the 4WD as I just float over the sand now and if she starts to sink low range takes care of that instantly

Loving it but I still need to fit my guard flares

my god what is this stuff and why were my rear quarter panels half full of it

Image

ok so I was tracking down a fuel vapour leak that fills my cab will enough fumes to make me start to spin out and I shone the torch into an inspection panel and found the guards half full

I vacuumed the right side clean and closed it all up then on a whim I decided to pull the left lights and shon the torch in there same thing vacuumed out and emptied into the garden

Image

at least 5kg all up
Image

so I drilled holes in all the obvious spots (arrrrgh they all scream)
behind the rear mudflap and right at the front of the bottom of the sill where the front panel bolts on the all the holes were nicely painted with white rust preventive paint once it was dry I washed the remaning mud out

Image
Image
Image

hmmmm was that a good Idea ?

Image

seems the inside sill filled to overflow because the mud wasn't draining quick enough make sure you park your car with the rear end facing down hill takes a little longer but it does come out

now Im waiting for the car to dry out abit its over 30 degrees here today

then Im going to pump the sills full of an atomised light oil mixture to prevent rust (ahahahahahaaaahaahahaahahhahaaaa)

seriously though wherever there was a big build up of mud is where these buggers rust out

mud for thought

Too much information!

Toonga, I don't think your brumby looks that weird with a 2 inch lift and the standard 13 inch rims and tyres. Looks good if you don't want to upgrade the tyres.

Sunnie had that fine dust in the same panels too. I vacuumed it out and left it at that.

Like AP, I too want a brumby of my own. Thought I had one sorted last week but it went right outside my non existant budget :( Some day...

Cheers

i know ALLLLL about that dusty mud like substace your refering too. ive gernied my shell out 3 times already, and still it comes. from where i dunno. everywhere is my guess. my car is 82 model though, and has seen some mud as a rallycar. will be the cleanest one out when im done though.

Bennie the 14's and the guard flares are now on the car I had 2 complete flares and 2 smaller bits that I had cut down for the back from one piece, by chance I went to clark rubber in Bunbury as they were looking for staff (I still haven't heard from them:( ) and in their offcuts they had 2 pieces of flare that was pre cut it is normally 22 dollars a metre they gave me it for 10 bucks so now I have all the flares done properly

Jack you need to drink less rocket fuel and more water

maxxair
I know how the mud/ dust gets in the wheel picks it up and it is flung into a hole at the top of the inner guards :)

and when I put on my other fuel cap the vapor problem stopped imediately YAAY!!!!!!!!

The brumby looks great with the 14s and the 2 inch lift. My dad has recently done exactly that with his brumby, and I'm going to do the same with mine, too. Not too high, not too low. Any bigger and you have to start cutting the arches away like Brumbyrunner has!

ok time for another update on the brumby

firstly a big thanks to everyone who has helped me to this point you know who you are :) (I'd like to thank my goldfish, my underwear,...... the list is long)

recently my ea81 decided it would get extremely tempremental so with the help of a free donor from a friend (Pete) in Perth, Paul (owe you still) put up with me while the engine was replaced (thanks again)

In the mean time work has progressed on frank my carby and dizzy run EJ motor

a manifold is being made to take a 350 holley and another is in the wings to take an SU 2''
Image
Image

an escort mark 3 dizzy was aquired (I will probably have to give up my firstborn for that one) and only slightly modified to fit (the keyway for the cam was machined a small amount)
lots of pics (lazy this morning)
http://s132.photobucket.com/albums/q4/W ... onversion/

and finally frank was beheaded to reveal a nice suprise

Image

why you may ask did I/we take the heads off so the heads from and EJ22 with a cam/keyway could be used

Image

the donor engine( why Stimpy why?)

Image

so progress is being made still some parts needed (anyone care to donate a SOHC headgasket kit) (or a 21 spline 225 mm brumby clutch kit?)

and a big thanks to all those involved again
