I started on fitting my 'FOX' WRX Seats. I wasnt happy with the 'crossmembers' coz the passengers side was 'lowered' and the drivers side had been attacked somewhat. pictures speak 1000 words so here goes a long story lol.

Ok.. only because you asked for it :p

Firstly love the work.. it looks great and would love to do the same if I had the time but I'm thinking you may want to stiffen (plate) the area where your bolts come through the floor for mounting your seat, mainly I'm looking at the rear mounting spots. Fronts are ok but I'd just make it thicker so you could tap your threads in it.

What sort of seat belts are you going to use?

not too sure on the bolts for the rear, I dunno if anyone would rego it like that. its kinda dodgey, especially since Im going to race it hard.

Im going to use RPM 4point harnesses, with stock belts for rego.

Yeah, I don't think the Technical Department will allow you to get the car passed the pits with the mountings like they are now. I was thinking you would use some sort of racing harness and that's what I was worried that you may get crushed if the set mountings let go.

Hey Rohan, I saw your post in my thread, but haven't got round to posting some pics and an explaination up. Looks like you're going great guns and the brumby's last owner looks like he stashed all of his mig wire in the seat rails before selling it on :p.

I initially did my front mounts like you did, but ended up stitching the actual front seat mount members from my WRX haf cut in. Of note, the front mount closest to the transmission mount should be mounted approx 10mm higher then the other front one. If you look at the seat rails, the fronts are different heights

For the rear outside mount, i'm not sure if you're planning on leaving it like that (with the bolt bearing the weight), but I really wouldn't recommend it. Bolt really should not be used in compression, especially when lateral forces are involved. Plus the mounting surface area of the washes isn't large enough, there's a good chance it will fail by punching a hole through the floor or bending the seat rail itself. For my mount, i've welded a small section of RHS at the correct height for the seat rail to sit on, and then welded a captive nut on the inside of the RHS that I can put a nice big bolt through.

I haven't finished my inside rear mount yet, but will post pics once I have. Cheers Craig

I'd use at least what the factory mounts use, which I think is at least M12. That should also be fine for the outside rear. For the inside rear, if like me you are using the factory WRX seat belt buckle attached to the seat rail, I would at least use an M16, maybe M20 and heavily reinforce the transmission tunnel where it bolts. Obviously in a front on crash, this bolt will have to carry your weight on the sudden deceleration (which in a big crash is huge), so don't cut corners here.

yep, for sure. I'll probly use standard brumby seat belts, and 4point harnesses.

btw, threads are measured on the thread O.D, not the head siz A/F. 12-13mm head is 'usually' an 8mm bolt.

I was refering to the thread size and did mean an M12 (i.e 14mm socket), an M8 or M10 would be too small in my opinion.
