my newish stormchasing L series, with goats skull!

Post by RogDog » Wed May 19, 2010 8:18 pm

My old L series had major problems including..

-busted windscreen due to bonnet not being shut fully and flipping up at 110km/h on a freeway

-worn axle threads on front hub area that made hubs wear out very quickly, many replaced hubs..

-captive nut totally destroyed, and body separation on three points of front passenger lift kit areas, customized a hole in the passenger floor so i could bolt a plate of steel to one underneath, worked great! totally dodgy..

-gearbox totally killed itself towards the end, it's dying day it was going 5km/h with insane whining metal on metal noises, ahah, poor thing..

i had awesome fun in it. it had a 2" body and strut lift, toyo 13" snow tyres, and king springs all round. No low range , so i had to drive it fast at bumpy hurtful hills, hence the extreme damage i did to it! heaps of custom vinyl graphics was added over the few years. a bit of a psychedelic nightmare,

heres a vid and some pics..

i went with my mate to a few wrekers to try and carefully bust out a windscreen, but broke three.. so we gave up.. then i saw her...

i pretty much bought her there and then, $750 delivered. I didn't even try and talk them down in price, I was blinded by stoopid excitement. 1988 DL1800 with low range, metallic silver with tinted windows.

needed to
-take out a defunct immobilizer,
-replace clutch (that was fun, will take out engine next time after reading a few threads!)
-new bushes all round (hilariously fun job without a press or vice.. my brother came up with this awesome customized tool make out of a wheel hub and other bits.. i'll take a photo sometime..)
-fixed rust around windscreen and back windows, nothing major.

i then customized my old subaru 13" rims with some sacred geometry and added a black vinyl to the entire lower section of the car to make it two tone. i added a steel bullbar, (alloy not strong enough for recovery point), 110watt spotties, new brigter driving globes (highly recommended) and a goats skull.. (this has got some serious attention, lol)

i then bought a plotter to make custom vinyl masks to spray with colour changing chromopaint.

with 2" strut lift (body lift going in this weekend i hope!)

future plans are 14" 6 stud hub conversion, exo-cage kind of thing for falling tree limb protection when stormchasing and fog lights.

Nice decals on the side there.

Did you buy them ready made or do them yourself?

yup! what Toonga said ! Designed them in coreldraw, ran vinyl mask through a plotter and stuck it on the car, then sanded it back, and sprayed it.

hiya Spike, they are OSRAM nightbreaker H4's
i used signblazer and coreldraw 14, full version. you can use basically any vector based program to make custom designs.
