1987 Wagon from Iceland - Turbo and 5x100lug

Hi there, my name is Guðni and here's my '87 Wagon. I bought it in October 2009 and back then it had no engine. Originally it has carburated EA82 but that engine was replaced for an EJ20G in 2007 when my friend had this car. So in 2008 the EJ20G was taken out and the car just stood with no engine until I bought it. The first thing i did was to put EA82T in it but 2 weeks later i disconnected the wastegate hose on the turbo and that ended with a broken piston. So next engine was like the original, EA82, that came from my rallycross car.

So next engine -> EA82T.. but I never got it to start.

But now just 1 month ago i decided to just do a EJ swap. The engine that was chosen is from a '00 Impreza and has been driven 272131 kilometers. The gearbox is from a Legacy or Impreza, not sure. Actually I'm not even sure what ratio that gearbox has. Right now the car is running and is rear wheel drive whith a 3.700 LSD. Is there any way to find out the gearbox ratio without opening it?
The swap is almoust perfectly finished, still have to do some small things like speedometer, turning lights and some other stuff. But one thing i would like to ask, what kind of rear driveshaft have you EJ swap guys been using? I have the front part from a automatic 1st gen Legacy and the rear part is the original L-Series shaft, but i feel it's not good enough since it's vibrating alot and making strange sounds.

But enough of the bullshit from me, now for some pics :)

Thats a nice looking L. Is that the factory colour? I like the front lip on it:P
How did you install the 5 stud rims on there?

Nope, this is the original colour

The 5 lug is just home made spacers that change the lug from 4x140 to 5x100, but the spacers are not on the car today.

It does look good doesn't it? Guards are nicely filled out and correct looking stance to it all - bet they scrape a bit inside the guards though. It is actually what we call a Touring wagon with the raised rear roof

Hehe since I'm from Iceland, the left side is the correct side  I think that there is only one L series here in Iceland that has the steering at the right side

So a little update from this car..

I decided to put a turbo on my motor. I kinda don't care how long it's gonna last since I didn't pay anything for a turbo and a intercooler. I got that from a Forester Turbo. :)

Right now I'm working on electricial things on the car, turning lights and some other stuff isn't working but hopefully it will be working soon. :) BTW can anyone tell me where the turning light relay is? And then I mean on the good old ea82t loom.

And probably on this week or the next one I'm going to make a couple of sets of spacers to change the lug from 4x140 to 5x100.

you have fitted the whole EJ20G engine then, not just the turbo adapted to EA82? OK, have just read your signature. AWD box too?

The turning lights think translate to indicators or did you guys get turning lights that light the corner better when you indicate in that direction like some of our luxo cars?

Indicators in L series vary from the models in that some have a blink blink relay built into the combo switch on your column so not a replaceable flasher unit elsehwere.

Gonna vote you the member with the most floorspace to work in and cleanest floor :)

Excellent progress sir - The UK isnt far away (2 hrs on a plane) and there are still quite a few engines here you could use. ???? And several specialist Subaru breakers to talk to for parts.
Cheap to ship parts in a crate from here.

Keep up the good work !

I don't have a EJ20G, just a normal non turbo EJ20 SOCH engine from a '99 Impreza. I'm just gonna but a turbo on this motor. :)

Yes I have a AWD gearbox from a Impreza.

So a little update on this one. I haven't been working on this project for some time now. But here are some things I've done on the last days..

All the turning light are working now, only have to connect the brake, reverse and fog lights.

I now have all the stuff I need for the turbo "build".. exhaust manifold and uppipe from a wrx, turbo from Forester, intercooler from Forester, wrx waterpump, all pipes and lines for the oil and water for the turbo and new head gaskets are coming after few days. I also took the brakes apart and made them like new and painted them.

Decided to paint some engine parts in different colour. :D

Here are some pics from all of this...
