LOL Bennie, i dont think either will be getting a h6.
sometime down the track one of them will recieve a turbo motor of some kind.
see which dies first. Both my cars are litterally 1000km apart on the odometer, looks like i'll have two timing belts to do in the next couple of months.
I think the liberty will last longer seeing as tho ive owned since it had 70k km on it and ive been looking after it really well (well trying too)
mind you the OB has a full serive history and im the second owner of it.
First thing off the ranks, lifted springs which i will be ordering this week

1+ for turbo over h6
Unless the h6 is blown but that would be a whole lot of work and money!
You will have very little travel in the rear with lifted springs and even less with strut tops, if you can get them in at all! You really need a lift kit with the multilink setup. Unless you modify the front lateral link (I think this is the one that causes the bind up as it is very short). making a longer link and mounting it lower would solve the problem, but handling would suffer.

see this is where i fail. Ive really got no idea how the suspension works in these things.
i really really hate lift kits. The lift kit is what killed my old wagon so im trying my best to get around it without a liftkit but may have no choice it seems.
i will see how it sits with the lifted springs. Maybe that will be JUST tall enough for me, or theyll do f/a

Whiteline make an adjustable set of 4 lateral links (#KTA124). Not cheap thou...

No, not the lift kit... Just the pilot!
What I think you'll find is that the suspension mounts are a much better design in terms of bolting arrangements etc so that with a lift kit they'll hold up much better that those on the L series, I'm talking about the notorious radius rod plate's captive nuts... None of those on the later models!

yes this is true...hrmm.
the outbacks already have a small body lift in them and ive also noticed abit more bracing and strengthening throughout compared to my liberty.
perhaps just a 2inch bodylift, 3inch strut tops and lifted springs.
the springs are being picked up today by my lovely other half, ready for install this weekend

Alex you could always just get 2" strut tops combined with the raised springs. Thats still 3" of lift plus some bigger tyres like BFG's or Geolander AT-S.
It would be cheaper to do that then adding 2" bodylift as well. Plus with larger tyres thats adding another inch.
Just a suggestion though.

Read what 78sti has said in a previous post... then I can say "welcome to the conversation"
Alex I should have added that if you do a H6 conversion that it MUST be mated with a manual gearbox. The auto sucks - literally! I've driven Venom's Gen2 liberty with the manual H6 conversion and it has some serious balls from right down low! It's AWESOME!! Even with a 2 inch lift and slightly oversized tyres it still pulled like a trojan right through the rev range. I'd love to see it against a WRX or something of the like...
Cheers

this car will be staying auto

seriously at this stage the 2.5 has more than enough poke to get me out of trouble for the time being and ive learnt how to drive the auto quite well seing as though its almost identical to my liberty auto.
once you know how to control the auto box it goes really well. Even my liberty with the 2l gets up and boogies for a 2l these days. There isnt that much difference between the outback and the lib.
ive sent out afew emails about getting a 2inch full bodylift made up.
i will wait for my tax to come thru before i do a full bodylift tho, and i'll do it when the current yokohamas wear out so i can upgrade them at the same time. Probably got about another 15000km in them.
saving for a baby, moving into a new house and modding a car takes abit of time for the funds to replenish these days haha.

I can only imagine! Have you given up drinking yet? Or better still - set yourself up with a couple of home brew kits?
Cheers

Wouldn't that put more stress on the cv joint?
