Ah the joys of motoring ... I got a hold of a working idle air control valve and solved that problem. So I went for a drive and while I was out and about I decided to test the diff lock on a limestone track.
It worked beautifully the light came on on the dash I could hear the actuator work, there was a difference in traction and I was really pleased... after a while and a bit of fun I went to turn it off, the light stayed on but the switch was in off mode. hmmmmm me thinks, I pull over and check the vacuum line to the body mounted valve setup before the actuator, all lines in tact.
then I check the lines to the actuator itself, some how one has come off, and of course it is the one that is under the starter motor and my gorilla hands won't get in there. one starter motor and off later the diff lock is working a treat.

Yeah.. my real bench is covered in crap.. must clean that up one daysteptoe wrote:Nice bench Paul has got there - same as one of mine, bloody hard on the internal organs as one ages though
They are getting pretty popular these benches. cheap as concreteTOONGA wrote:Yeah I have the same workbench as well, I call it the hobbleton model.
I saw a very impressive workbench the last time I was in Perth but sadly the owner (he had 2 mind you) wouldn't part with either of them.
I do think though that given the right materials one could be made rather easily.

Yeah Jules.. I'll be hitting up Nigel about that bench when I get home.. he'll cave in.
BTW... just upload this (only took 3 days out here.. at 0.3kb/s)

seriously how do I miss these posts ... I'm not being tinky winkycoupe wrote:Hey if Jules , Paul and myself get together we could be the W.A branch of the Tele tubbies.

and now for something completely different...
I may have gotten rid of my code 24, 2 AIC valves later I found via the vortex FSM the vehicle speed read sensor (aka VSS connector) ECU plug T8, connector 29 YR.
I ran a test wire from that connector to the VSS imput (only 8 feet long) and Ive not had a code since. now all I have to do is find the wire at the speedo end of the loom and make the wire 7 feet shorter.
I have this niggling feeling there was nothing wrong with the first replacement valve

Cause your gut was blocking the screen !! :p:pTOONGA wrote:seriously how do I miss these posts ... I'm not being tinky winky
I think it's just coincidence because whenever the ECU doesn't get the true VSS signal, the ECU goes into limp mode (fans stay on and engines revs slightly higher). Code 24 is Air control valve or circuit only. If you check the power supply relay (ignition relay) then this could be supplying the incorrect voltage.TOONGA wrote:and now for something completely different...

You sure of that? My car has never had a VSS, and has never limped. That's on both the Impreza and Lib ECUs. It has thrown an air control valve code, but that didn't put it into limp mode either.RSR 555 wrote: I think it's just coincidence because whenever the ECU doesn't get the true VSS signal, the ECU goes into limp mode (fans stay on and engines revs slightly higher).

Yes Dane I am.. My first 2 conversion I did back in the mid nighties also didn't have them fitted but I always had issues with weird sh*t.. so from then on, I've always fitted them and with much success. I'm not sure if it will happen on all models but I'm thinking that connecting 1 extra wire isn't going to worry me.GOD wrote:You sure of that? My car has never had a VSS, and has never limped. Yes.. code 24 will throw it into limp mode I can guarantee that. As the ECU will try and protect the engine from running lean due to sticky/open IAC valve.
edit.. BTW Dane.. just for my reference, is your fans connected via the ECU or radiator switch?

when do we see pictures of hatchy?
Ok just for you Jules - and just a bit off topic and no mention of teeth !
Wings / Fenders off - the work begins.......(old fenders used to help sell MV2)
The front end of Hatchy is as new body wise - thanks to a historical oil leak from the front of the engine ! Possibly saved this cuties skin from the scrappers !
Caption time - C'mon Jules you should come up with a good one for the next piccy !:rolleyes:
