Nice find :)

Can't remember if the tail shaft needs to be modified to fit the Brumby

Mmm, any tips on how to fit it or what will need modifying? Haven't swapped a box before haha

Tom.

Hey Tom, there should be plenty of threads about these conversions, so have a search. also I can help if needed. My main recommendation is use the complete EA82 flywheel/clutch setup and also the pedal box and cable. I would make yourself the centre bearing mount, so you don't have vibration problems.

One thing I do know about this conversion - use the two piece L series tail shaft, make a centre mount for it to fit, no shortening required.

The flywheel - you can machine the step to the same as the EA82's step for the clutch pressure plate - then use everything else EA82 from there back.

The L series clutch cable and fork needs to be used, this requires mods to the pedal box to accept the L series clutch cable - I don't know the intimate details about this bit though.

USMB has loads of stuff on this - but the clutch cable DOES need to be changed for us as the Left hand market can get away with using the factory MY cable.

Cheers

Things are getting worse with our little Emma :(

Master cylinder has developed a nasty leak, slowly destroying the paint in the engine bay on the rail below it

Inner CV boots constantly wear out and need replacing

Pinging badly, even with 98 RON, 8 degree timing and a relatively recently replaced distributor + cap

Tappet noise like a bitch, valves need adjusting/shimming

Rear suspension is pretty much totally shot

So yeah, so much work to do :(

We need details - who's doing the work - mechanical and wiring?

What gearbox?

:D

Keen to know - I love conversions!

I'll be doing it all for the most part, still haven't decided whether to use Emma or this Brumby: showthread.php?p=227848#post227848

Once I get my car's thermo fans sorted and get my postie bike to have as a runabout this project SHOULD be starting :D

I wanted to go for the EJ20G since it's a boss, but I hadn't been able to find one in decent knick for the money I want to pay so I gave up on that idea.

As far as details go:

EJ205
Not sure on gearbox yet, but it will be a manual EJ AWD box (one I can swap 23 splines into since I don't have a 5 stud kit)
Will be lowering her a little bit
Coilovers front
Upgraded rear shocks
RX Rear sway bar, brakes, and diff if the box is a 3.700
Updated interior including dash etc from the donor (hopefully)

Basically I've been hunting around on Pickles and stuff for a totalled WRX with low km's as a donor (just with rear end damage or something similar) since all the reco'd engines and front cuts are insanely expensive for a student like myself :(

So keen :D

Cheers,
Tom.

No the old RX got rougher and rougher and with uni starting again things have been a bit hectic :(

I bought a 3L H6 '03 plated MY04 Outback to replace her. Haven't had the time to jazz her up yet let alone start a conversion project.

At the moment getting the Outback serviced and the sound system in is No. 1 priority as far as time goes. I have the shell for the Brumby, but a bike is the next thing on the agenda as far as money goes.

This is still going to happen eventually though, I am determined! Time is the key factor.

Cheers,
Tom.

Righto so I own this Brumby that this will be happening to, plans have changed though. I haven't been able to find a decent donor in the past year and money's tight so I've decided to put the 5sp DR from my RX Turbo in, including the rear LSD, brakes, sway bar, and upgrading the suspension. Engine is still in rough condition though so I think I'll just keep plugging along nursing her until I can find the right donor.

Cheers,
Tom.

One other area to look into with the pinging is the throttle shaft on the carbie. If there's excessive play in this you'll be sucking air and leaning out your mixture no matter what type of RON fuel you use.

I've got this issue on Sunnie The Brumby that needs to be addressed. It's the only thing I can track it down to.

Also you'll find that the RX turbo dr box has the larger 25 spline diff output stubs and the dodgy 1.19:1 low range. Splitting the box and swapping parts can solve both of these though.

Cheers

How do you mean "dodgy 1.19:1"?

Dodgy as in it's th closest thing to 1:1 that Subaru produced. The NA L series low range is the best for offroading that you can get at 1.59:1

As for it's production I'm sure they're quality units - just not real good for offroading.

Cheers

Righto well I'm undecided as to whether or not to make it rwd or 4wd yet anyway so we'll see.

Tom.
