Subydoug wrote:Fella's, you missed my point. As an engine, the EJ22 isnt really a high performance engine, only producing around 60hp per liter of engine capacity. My KX250 produces around 40hp from 250cc, that's 160hp per L (an EJ22 of simillar performance would have 350bhp)! My brothers XR6turbo is around 100hp per liter. However, Im getting ahead of my self now as those engines are high performance motors, where the EJ was never meant to be a high performance engine.

I guess what Im trying to say is some of those little iron block straight 4 engines made by companys like toyota and nissan are "better bang for capacity" then the subie engines.

Sorry for the rant, it certainly is a sweet looking beast you got their!

Oh please no :( I love the look of RX-4's and the like, but the rotary note is one of the most irritating things I've heard!

I'm not saying they're good sounding, but ho' damn they've got some ability when well tuned and maintained. There's a guy in Kalamunda with a rotary powered offroad bike and it's got amazing poke. I'll try sneak a photo of him some time.

Keen to see that :D

And yeah they've got a bit of go about them. One of my work mates recently bought himself a series 2 RX-7 and geez it goes.
But we won't talk about Mazdas on here too much

Hey mate remember that your EJ22 is probably around 20 years old! While an XR6 turbo isn't even 10 years... technology advances. If you want lots of power do a bug eye wrx swap with a few mods. You'd easily have 200kw per tonne(leone only weighs a tonne lol) while an XR6 turbo has 260kw and weights 1800kg.
In an offroad car though you don't really need turbo power, a torquey motor yes. That's why diesel just make mince meat of any load/towing work.
If you want more power supercharger the EJ22, just look at Hatchie.

Yeah I wanted to pick up a Vortex or another Brumby and do an EJ20t swap. No where near enough doll hairs for that though :( poor uni student days.

Also, couldn't find anything on the oil cap or block about engine date/year :(

AND. Had to swap over the wheels with Emma's :( not roadworthy with the big offset. Sat about an inch or two past the guards. Need to get some flares :/ Does ride a bit nicer though, acceleration is better when it's not surging or dropping out.

So as she sits with stock 13" steelies (looks a bit dinky)

And against a Brumby with no lift

Don't know if it's too visible, but that whole mess of crap on the roof of the Brumby is the sound system I tore out of her ;)

underside of the oil cap is a calendar circle of date cast ? 1 to 12 in circle like a clock face with year in centre ?

Will check this arvo again when I'm home from uni. Cheers

And yeah they're keeping me a bit too busy haha, handy that the missus is in Townsville so she doesn't get all uppity about me spending too much time on my other babies ;)

The cap can be changed (but highly unlikely), the best way is to use the engine number but you need to have a very good friend named Andy to chase it down. My best advise would be to ask the guy who fitted it in the car ;)

Where have I seen this car before??

I'm sure all your subi's will keep you busy! And the RX on 13's doesn't look too dicky - at least not this dicky:

Lifted L's always look better with 27's!

Haha, that does look a bit... odd :p

I think the old mate I bought it off said it used to be the promotion car for Scorpion AWD here in Brisbane. But I can't be sure.

Oh really????, I beg to disagree but they are quite happy to punch out 300hp all day in rally cars, my virtually stock EJ20 puts out >280hp and pulls 8,000rpm with ease and has done so for the last 16yrs without hesitation, that's 140hp per liter. :0

Then that, good Sir, is one beast of a motor :D. Please convince me that its stock so I can go and get one for my Vortex .

Doug, I think you'll find Tom is talking about the DOHC Turbo EJ engines and not the SOHC EJ22 engine.

From Wikipedia...

EJ22G Turbo DOHC
Horsepower: 280 PS (206 kW; 276 bhp) @ 6000 rpm
Torque: 362.8 N·m (268 lb·ft) @ 3200 rpm

Usage:
Impreza STi 22B GC8 series(JDM)
