This is my Brumby;

No CD Player, just USB and Bluetooth. It plays music from my phone as soon as I start the car and all my calls

and I have a 6Gb thumb drive hooked up in the glove box.

Not the best speaker install but I didn't want to cut too much out of the doors and dash;

Took my 4yo daughter camping for the first time last weekend and slept in the back;

I plan to make a bed base or table of sorts to clear the wheel arches and have storage for 'hunting paraphernalia' underneath

Like I stated in the Newbie intro section, I have a lot of plans that will come when money does lol.

I'm still scouring the search function of this forum to see if other subaru dashes can fit without too much fabrication or cutting of the firewall.

I'd love to do a modern one but I'm guessing that most are too wide. But I'm keen to put this one in;

Easiest to make fit without any mods is the one below. Best sourced from manual '82 touring wagon as it will have '4wd' and 'hi/lo' signal lamps on the dash. Can source from '82-'84 coupe or sedan too but wont have the dash lamps. Whichever you find (if), you will need the dash pad, the cowling which holds the light switches, the instrument panel with the wiring (all unplugs from cabin side of fire wall, the fuel sender (for the low fuel warning light on dash) and the oil pressure sender unit from the front of the motor. Again, this is the easiest to make fit without mods but it is the hardest to find in the 4wd configuration needed in a Brumby!!

That's L series and wont fit without major construction, if you were going to that effort, do the wrx one below.

That's L series again, wont fit! Again get intermittent wiper switch from '82-'84 Leone sedan, or coupe (or wagon but it is bigger as it will have the rear wiper switch incorporated with it) Make sure you get the tubular silver wiper relay that makes it function, from behind the fuse box area. It is all plug and go stuff.

Nice Brumby.
If you want to do a complete dash upgrade try getting a hold of a spare, complete, Brumby dash frame (what bolts up to the inside of the firewall and what the instrument panel bolts onto) and the new, doner instrument panel you want to fit.
Modify the new instrument cluster into the spare frame and fit the frame into the car with the new dash. Also, you will need a donor instrument cluster front panel to modify and fit.
I did this with a 1978 Datsun 200B SX and fitted a 1981/2 Nissan Bluebird top of the line instrument cluster panel and facia.
Though with this mod I retained the original 200B dash pad.
I temporarily located the Bluebird cluster into the spare 200B frame and oxy welded the necessary screw points into place. The instrument cluster front panel required a lot of modification too and relocated mounting points into the 200B frame.
All up this is a big job but can be done.

Let me know if you find a spare 82 Touring wagon dash top as mine is cracked.

Thanks for the advice guys.

I really do like the L series dashes if I find one cheap enough I might try what Cliff suggested, saves me going without the brumby.

My main and first goal is getting more ground clearance, I read somewhere in here that L series or leone suspension fits and will give me 2" raise. I'll have to look for it again.

I've had her fully loaded every weekend thus far lol.
First load was 18 boxes of tiles and other building stuff approx 400kg
Second load was the old vanities and tiles from the bathroom approx 550kg
The last load was 44 boxes of laminate floor boards and other building supplies approx 750kg

Handled fairly well considering it was over weight lol, oops

You've sorta gotta watch the loads you put on. The owner of a soil yard claimed he dropped about 800kg on my tray, left a small mountain on the roof, spilling onto the front screen - getting more than my monies worth

From factory there is only 20mm of bump stop clearance so the load is not going to really drop the guards eyebrow any lower as you fill her up so can't use it as a load gauge.

When I replaced my surprisingly finished rear shocks found the round washers of the moustache bar were a little on the cupped side

and stretch marks appeared and stayed in the paint on the side panels behind doors

Yeah, not planning to load her that much again. To be honest I didn't really think about until she was loaded and LOW lol.

I got bored of ripping up tiles and cracking up concrete today so I built the bed base for the back of the ute so I can fit a double bed above the wheel arches. The frame is complete, just need to put a top on it, maybe a drawer underneath if I'm really bored lol.

Not sure if you can see the offset wheels at the back. That way I can merely lift it and it rolls out. Can't wait to go camping again and test it out.
