I'm using the 'postie' method:
the postie wrote: L series engine mounts bolted to the front hole in the lib metal bracket that goes on the motor.Pitch rod and tailshaft shortened.Adjust gearbox x member to suit.
moves the WHOLE thing back 20 mm. that gives me room for fans.

just drove the car back from fulcrum then - FK this thing moves!! nothing really under 2500 but over that - 1st spools - drops outs out 2nd spools and by then its VERY MUCH on the wrong side of the speed limit!

threw two codes on the way back and I think I hit boost cut. code 33 - speed sense ( not connected yet.) code 24 - IAC- throttle needs adjusting.

other than that the car puts a BIG smile on my face and scares the **** out of me at the same time.

anyone tell me how to pull codes off the ABS system. ABS light is on for some reason. (system does not work.)

we have new VR (240kmh) rated rubber under it. now if I can stop the thing boost cutting ( no speed on ECU I think is causing it.) then I'm happy. first turbo spools, second tries to and then it cuts.

ordered new exhaust gaskets and rocker gaskets for it as well ($275 NZ!)

found that the radio panels are still available as well. two versions - the NZ version that allows a DIN radio to literally BOLT in and the later flat one that has the electronic radio in it. I have the prices here for the NZ one and I'm probably ordering one.

going yard diving in the morn to get a few things :)

A/C system works! needs gas but I can move the air around and fire the compressor up. do have a question though. does the A/C compressor stay on with heat as well. I realize it will cycle on and off depending on core temp but I'm unsure on the rest of it.

thoughts?

It shouldnt, unless its in defrost mode, where it supplies warm, dehumidified air to the windscreen

ok I'm happy. (still no gas) but I can cycle the compressor now (I'm using ice to cool the thermo switch.)

I'm going to leave the compressor engaged fulltime with the haet/AC on. if it causes an issue I'll change it.

Be careful running the A/C with no gas, it might not be getting lubricated.

started moving the engine back. lots of things have to CHANGE to make it move 20mm. passenger turbo dump needs to be remade with a sharper bend - driveshaft needs to shorten.

OE fans fit now with the engine loosely in the correct place.

this is going to be fun and it all has to happen within 1.5 weeks!

cooling fans run - turn on for 2-3 minutes then turn off. where are these supposed to come in gauge wise - half way?

I'm trying to work out if the sender is different between EA & EJ series engines. thoughts?

Good work.

I was wondering why there is not enough room in front of your engine?

As ive never heard of this being a problem with most other EJ conversions.

Id love to see this car in person

I'm trying to retain the OE fans they do not fit on the standard WRX mounts I'm using engine is too close. for now the Euro Benz fans are on the front of the radiator and I have no A/C because of it. car needs to drive by the 20th so I made the call (wife wants A/c) to do without the A/C to get the thing mod plated and registered.

once the xmas rush settles I'll grab a set of engine mounts and push the whole lot back so the OE fans fit where they are supposed to. took a few more shots tonight with the new bonnet. (will post shortly) vent placement is spot on this time. I have the vent out of it and the I'cooler is DIRECTLY below.

on the older bonnet it was further forward. I'm going to section the lower duct panel (vortex turbo vented air directly onto the turbo) so it can support a rubber accordion mat that way the thing seals.

you are only a few hours away drive up and I'll take you for a run in it :)

$400 later and 4 new coils it runs a treat. (at 15 PSI mind you!!)

what is the stock boost on these things? 15 seems a bit high - taking it off the turbo outlet on the intercooler. cannot read Vac for some reason.

taking it for a test run later to verify a few things.

who is brissy can calibrate a speedo??

Ej and ea fans switch on at the same temp ,just use different methods of doing it.Mine switch on at about a 1/4 on the gauge but i'm running the ej sender[for temp gauge] which reads slightly lower on the l dash.I'm also using the standard l fan switch. From what i've read if the temp gauge reads correctly about half is right.Make sense?

that makes sense to me. mine is EJ sender on L dash. tempted to change it over so the gauge reads correct. currently fans are on at 1/4 gauge and off a bit below that. so by your account its right and it works .

You wont see vac unless you take your boost gauge from the intake manifold, after the throttle.

Yeah 15psi sounds high for stock. I would have thought somewhere between
7-12 psi (even 12 is high for a factory turbo)

ok took it for a run - at 100 kmh its on boost at 2-3 lb. plant it and its 15psi,10psi (changover) and then 15psi. no error codes so I'm not entirely sure what is up. mind you planting the foot sees well onto the wrong side of hte limit very quickly.

speedo is a fluke. sitting beside the wifes car at 60,80,100 its very close. may still get it dyno'd and checked properly but for now it will do.

cooling fans kept it at 1/4 gauge so I'm happy with that. will be interesting to see what it does on a warm day.
